  1. So looks like my brother and I can attend again for this year's Bronycon meetup.

Just figured I'd check up on the status of things. Whether you guys plan to share rooms and the like similar to last year.

Probably would have chimed in earlier, but it's been a trying couple of months between my Grandfather's injuries and then his death.

EDIT: Been over two months since I posted this and not a reply, poke, PM, or anything. I guess that's a negatory on any plans?

  2. 2016 was a year like any other. Sucks about the celebrity deaths this time around though. (Which is funny, because I generally don't care much for most of Hollywood) But hey, life sucks in general. And as said earlier, there have been worse years.

    We'll survive.

  3. Felt I had to share a few updates since I had some amazing luck yesterday night.

My Dk is still a little under my hunter's ilvl (which is 868), but I closed the cap thanks to a much needed trinket upgrade from the weekly chest. (as well as some xmog swag from older content)

The big thing I'm a little giddy about is that my rogue just jumped over 20 ilvls thanks to an 885 titanforged helm off J'im and Legendary pants from a cache. It'll be nice to do mythics and raid on a toon that isn't my hunter.

I got my priest, monk, and pally up to 110 as well. Hopefully I can get them geared enough to heal effectively.

Thanks for indulging me. I was beginning to worry that request might have broken you.

  5. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Argus. More or less how the Draenei handle that as well, with it being their former homeworld and all. Kinda been interesting to watch the Draenei-only guild I'm in react to everything that's happened so far in this expansion.

Old god resurgence is probably next on the chopping block. And i'd certainly like to see how they handle Queen Azshara as well - perhaps see a unique model instead of a blacked out Vashj back in Aszuna.

I'd also like to hear a little more on potential class balance changes sometime in the future. A few of the classes i enjoyed in previous expansions (like my elemental shaman) could really use some good news about now.

How come I get this request right after reading that topic. ^ ^" I'll see what I can do, probably gonna take me whole A3 and some time.

Coincidence, I guess? I was going to ask for something else, but then I figured Discord shenanigans would probably be more fun to draw than some boring OCs.

Besides, I can probably do that boring stuff myself on my own time.

I disagree. One of the most enthusiastic refrains from the Steven Universe fandom is that it is one of the few animated shows on TV that portrays "people like me," especially regarding orientation or gender identity.

Same-sex and gender issues are something kids pick up on in early adolescence. Simply not portraying a natural state of sexual orientation and pretending that everybody in a relationship is in a mixed-sex relationship (which is the default if you don't address SS issues upfront) gives people with different orientations the message that they're not normal and something is wrong with them. If the only models they have to relate to are models that do not fit them at all, how are they helped in understanding themselves? All my experience listening to the people who do go through is is that it doesn't help, it contributes to the confusion and stress of not being hetero or cis. That's not a healthy state for them, and it does nothing to help society at large come to grips with the mismatch between reality and our long-standing assumptions.

This isn't unique to Steven Universe. Since the 1970s, a little comic book series call X-Men has been doing the exact same thing in a slightly more abstracted way. By making "mutant" a literary substitute for gay, or black, or any other minority that struggles with social persecution because of some inborn characteristic, X-men had a strong and loyal following of appreciative young people that could finally find a pop culture outlet for their frustrations and see characters that understood how they felt. The X-Men offered them a fictional world in which there was a place of acceptance and a safe space from society at large, where people who were "different" were the stars of the show and their differences recognized as gifts rather than sins.

There's doing it right and then there's shoving it down everyone's throats. They could probably get away with something subtle, like something/somepony in the background (like they've done before in a few ways) for older kids and up to find and point out - but it SHOULDN'T be the entire focus of an episode. It's a kid's show, after all. This is My Little Pony - not X-Men or Steven Universe. We are currently awaiting the SEVENTH season of this show - if they were going to make an episode focusing on this subject, they would have done so already. Could they still do it? Sure. But I personally feel that the opportunity to even try do so has long passed.

Suddenly revealing someone to be gay or focusing a friendship problem around this would just be hollow/sloppy writing at this point. (especially if it involves a recurring character of some importance) It'd basically be tacking on a character trait that's unnecessary and limiting creative possibilities and potential character development in the future to emphasize the fact that X character is now and always has been gay. (complete with constant and forced reminders, which takes away from the story to again confirm that said character is gay. It just leads to bad writing for the sake of pandering.) Probably the thing I love most about this series is the writing - and that so many things are open to interpretation, leading to some interesting and diverse things to read in Fanfiction and RP - or to look at in fan art.

You are free to disagree with me, but I feel that forcing an openly token gay character into MLP's show canon is PROBABLY a bad idea for its continued existence. As Aaron said earlier, just let the happy cartoon horses be happy cartoon horses. Let the mature themes congregate in Fanfiction, RP, and Fan Art. (Or watch something else that covers it. there's a LOT out there.)

  8. Yep. Don't watch vids relating to the game. I know that the footage and soundtrack were leaked, just resist the temptation for a week now. Mmmkay?

I'm pretty excited about this game - and this time around, I'm considering actually filling up the Pokedex again since filling it in gen 2. Because of the 2016 monthly promotions, I don't have to indulge ridiculous requests for most of the legendaries. Yay!)

Well...she also created a spell to remove Cutie Marks, finished Starswirl's spell with relative ease as seen from her attitude, fought Twilight Sparkle the Alicorn as a Unicorn to the stand-off...Also note that most Unicorns develop magic around their talents. Twilight's talent WAS magic. What of Starlight? Unless they make her an Alicorn in next seasons (which is an overkill), I sense the second coming of Starswirl the Bearded, an allpowerful Unicorn.
But yeah, she's not OP, just powerful.

Pretty much this. She's done a LOT for a simple unicorn, much that in the short time we've known her that she's done many magical feats that many could make early seasons Twilight jealous. (I remember arguing with someone else early on about whether self levitation for unicorns was possible in the mainstream. It was proven possible by one of the cake twins - but she was a young foal with magic surges that let her bend dimensions. And then Starlight cements it)

So basically S. Glimmer's powerful, especially in combat/utility spells, but she has many apparent flaws too. I personally like what they've done with her so far, but understand that some don't view her as I do. But either way, you can expect some great things with her.

  10. Kids don't need gender identity politics and lessons in sexuality in their stuff. There's enough politically charged ideas/agendas out there and this would probably more than piss off parents that watch this alongside their kids. Entertainment is supposed to be an "escape" from the overall crappiness of our lives and the world around us - not a reminder.

In short, they can write some serious stuff from time to time. (You did provide some decent examples) The writers know there's an older audience, but it should ultimately be something the entire family can enjoy. Not something that prompts awkward q/a sessions with the family about controversial subjects. (Especially those that should remain on Tumblr.)

EDIT: If you want content pertaining to certain issues, or to just mess around - there's always Fanfiction or RP.

Plus it's the only model that's capable of playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, plus there's no telling if they'll release other Wii titles over to the 3DS that require the New 3DS model to run them.

The "New" 3DS has superior processing power in general, which allows them to port an enormously amazing game like that to the 3DS. For other titles, it makes load times, if any, considerably shorter compared to the other models.

Also, there was a Volcanion promo?

Yeah...you technically missed it. Gamestop (or similar stores overseas) had codes for it in October. Right now, the same store(s) are distributing Genesects for this month's promo. Now, you might get lucky and they could have some of the earlier card codes left over from previous distributions. The codes still work - and if they have some, they're just sitting behind the counter anyways. You won't know unless you ask.

  13. So, which starter are you guys going to go with on release? I was originally gunning for Rowlet, but I think I might roll Popplio or Litten for Pokedex completion purposes since my brother is adamant in his choice already.

On another unrelated note, I'm quite happy right now. I got went to a Gamestop a county over a few days ago for the Volcanion promo and got an Arceus code (which still works) from August's promo. Genesect is November's promo - so try and snag him if you want some more free legendaries!

  14. Call Of Duty needs to stop releasing a bloody game every year. Sure, they have three companies that develop games for the franchise, but they look and play so similarly that they blur together visually. If they took some time between releases, perhaps the game's playerbase would last longer.

I have fond memories of a lot of these games (I probably played 2, MW 1-2, BO2 the most) - but if they want people besides the little ten year olds to keep caring, they need to put in some actual effort and love into any future games. (Which that looks like a negatory)

One of the biggest flaws in this franchise is that they generally don't balance things or fix bugs actively. (some were better than others)

Probably one of the most glaring examples (to me) of this was the MP-40 in World at War. It's an SMG that could kill in two shots without headshots/perks and people abused the heck out of it to the point that it was the only thing people used. The thing should have been nerfed within a few months, but it never saw a single change in the game's lifetime.

TLDR: It's nice that Modern Warfare is getting an HD re-release. (It's a dated game, but it's also a classic.) But it SHOULDN'T be gated behind Infinite Warfare.
