Post a Song, Name a Pony

Listen to the song in the last post, name a pony it fits closest to, post song of your own. Go.
  2. So now that we're well within hiatus territory yet, it'd be more than fitting to post a thread about what other shows we're watching. Not just cartoons, or anime. But other shows, something to bide the time. I've decided to get into Stranger Things on Netflix and got through the first season. With that under my belt, I'll be moving onto Season 2. Or even just start inter-spacing that with Frontier season 2 since that's a thing, though admittedly I didn't like the first season very much but the devious bastards did end that on a cliff hanger so I gotta see what happens next and if I get my Game of Thrones in Canada or not.

    Let's just...

Nuke the TF2 section because we're clearly not a TF2 group anymore. Hell, we don't even got servers anymore. Maybe if we had servers and people played it might justify it but clearly those people are gone and now the site is a revolving door of intro threads and status updates. Given time, I might find more sections that could be better off pruned/merged to clean things up. But we gotta start somewhere. Start playing TF2 againnor remove it; use gaming instead.

pls help me find this song

i don't remember how it goes but i remember the music video. it was a group of people standing in some basement room or something there was no windows. one was seated and there was moustaches and shit. then at some point some other guys come in with guns and start shooting. i really want to find it again because the crescendo that comes at the shooty bit was really moving and powerful and i feel like theres the metaphor of the world changing in there that symbolizes the shift of one period to another. i really dont know the song tho because its in russian so maybe someone could help me
  5. A British psychologist recently released a paper detailing how holiday music can cause spikes in stress levels, as it tightens the clamp down of impending doom with the constant reminders of what needs to be done still before the holidays. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/christmas-music-can-harm-mental-health-cause-stress-psychologist-finds/

    Valve "making" games

Given how small the Valve company is I highly doubt there's anything else far enough in the pipeline that would be in the news release phase. They have, what, thirty-some-odd people rotating all around the company on their own free will?

  11. The argument that the word "Nigger" is harmless because it's Latin and is the name of Nigeria overlooks a long history of social implications, usage, and complexities as much as it overlooks its etymological roots. For starters, the name of Nigeria is derived from the river Niger, which isn't sourced from the Latin languages but from Berber as "River of Rivers". Nigerians don't make a fuss about it, because they're the country of the River of Rivers. Or from the Berber relatives of the Tuareg: Egerew n-Igerewen. This was passed down to us by Leo Africanus. While you might think that phonetically the name of Nigeria is derived from the Latin word for black, their two different instance of two words that mean different things from different languages, like "gift" in English and "gift" in German. You want a gift in English, gift in German kills you. Gift is poison auf deutsch. The pejorative word "Nigger" is rooted from the Spanish and Portugese words for black people, which does have a Latin root meaning black. But is not the same as the meaning of Niger. Now, etymology aside the fact of the matter is excusing the weight of the word as being little because of some originally harmless meaning (black) does nothing but overlook the social context of its use and history. By the 18th century the modern derivatives for Latin-black in the context of people began to be used to look down on people of darker skin, evolving with language trends and the evolution of English to become what it is today. But because of its broader context to describe a people who were all largely enslaved through much of anglo history. Even with slavery being abandoned by the British thirty-years before America, the mindset of the inferior black - the nigger - was an important meme to deploy in the imperial experiments in Africa and the civilization of Africa through colonization, turning the natives of the land into second class, unworthy citizens. Likewise the usage of the word to further differentiate the blacks who were enslaved and the free whites of America became a means by which the slavery was maintained or even bred out of the institution of slavery in a cycle of use. Attaching not just a recognition of difference in skin tone, by association and use the definition of and use of "nigger" took on to mean less developed people, as in the British Empire but also illustrated in America by Jefferson's writings on slavery proclaiming the African blacks as being naturally inferior; interestingly as contrasted against Washington's later development and admission that the African Blacks were inferior because of slavery, and not as Jefferson said that they're enslaved because of their perceived natural inferiority. The emancipation of slaves really doesn't do much to overlook this or stop or change its use. The later Civil Rights movement(s) and the missions of such groups as the NAACP and the MLK's Southern Baptist Church helped to mark a trend to neutralize the effect of the N-word by replacing it all together with neutral terms that don't carry that historical weight. Because even over a century after the end of slavery and the weight, implications, and hate of the word "Nigger" or the aristocratically dated "Negro" still remains, and sweepingly ignoring all that history behind the word, by saying it doesn't matter, does little in actually healing it. As it stands, when spoken by a white person to describe a thing or a person it compares it by connotation to a black person, and implies both are the same thing, which has been the entire contemporary mission of the Civil Rights movement to surmount and defeat. tl;dr - Words just don't mean just words, and using them without awareness of their connotations is an admission of ignorance or if with intent as being racist. Gwailo may mean a white ghost or white devil literally. But it's direct and figuratively used to pejoratively describe white people.

Oh and a rake too the day after that pic/yesterday because I needed a rake, since I had no rake and the yard needed a good spring-time raking.

Should racist/bigots in the fandom be exposed?

Up until the church again splits over crazy shit just like the west because someone made the sign of the cross wrong so you start breaking heads and it's an entire intersectional war. Or someone plays with the calendar and you split three ways. Or someone in the church decides to wave away the entire argument of sex by carrying out castration and mascetomy of the congregation. Or decides someone needs to be whipped. Or, while not claiming it's no-homo you just straight up marry same-sex individuals anyways because if you tell Jesus it's no homo it's no homo. This has been a facet of the Eastern Church for a thousand years too. There is no original teaching of the church if even on many levels - modern included - you're not able to agree on Jesus's divinity or the canonical status of the Old Testiment. But also too I need to know: Do you support that church the supports the Fascist government of Ukraine? Or the church that supports the Fascist government of Russia? A slav needs to know. What is your position on the Gregory Palamas vs Barlaam battle?

Should racist/bigots in the fandom be exposed?

Then which Orthodox church are you accepting? The side of the church that accepts Russian policy or not? The Eastern tradition is no less free of doctrinal dispute as the western tradition and as such even within itself - as without itself an in the broad Christian world - can not possibly claim the single cloth of being the true belief. Let alone even, once your magical one-church state is formed, then what happens when a doctrinal split happens? Are the new ones less Christian than you?

Should racist/bigots in the fandom be exposed?

If the topic of the thread is to expose and confront racists and bigots then the above conversation is very much on track. The notion of the racist or the bigot as the subject of the thread is revealed, by Niles, as being presently that. Thematically this is antagonist to the show, which lauds themes of being an open and diverse society and the integration of and Belonging in society of individuals outside of the percieved norm. Since community isn't built from the homogeony of belief or exterior appearance but by the relations of the individual towards one another. The assertion of Niles in the end concludes there isn't any relation between two people if they are opposing. The conclusion is in best of circumstances as Niles is writing it is that opposing positions or """race""" to himself is intolerable. So Niles, tell me again how you're tolerant?
