  1. Definitely would have to be Pony Swag by Swagberg ft. Maros. I found my way to the scene in the summer between season one and two and this was my first introduction to Brony music. I have to say it was probably the combination of rap (which I dislike in general) and ponies (of which I was unsure of at the time) that put me over the edge. Any fandom that could combine those two things into something so catchy and enjoyable had to be worthwhile.
  2. uhhmm, Hello I guess.

Welcome to our little slice of the world. I'm a Navy fellow myself so I can relate to having found MLP while out on deployment. I hope you enjoy yourself here and find some new friends.
  3. Books! Books! And More Books!

Wow. There are a lot of folks around here diving or revisiting some great classics and several nonfiction works that I'm going to have to add to my must-read list. Been on a fanfiction kick over deployment recently. Made it back through some of the lengthier works that are almost novels themselves while working through my Kindle library. Last week I finished the Dragonlore trilogy and have followed it up with Atlas Shrugged. If I make it through that one by the end of Dec then it's on to going back through The Landmark Thucydides, Herodotus, and Xenophon series by Robert B. Strassler. Such a neat time period to dive into.
  4. Quote your life.

"The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." - Ayn Rand
  5. How did you become a Brony?

It's a cheesy story. It's probably mildly cringe-inducing to some, but it's all true. Stationed in Japan for a couple of years and was living out of a couple of suitcases in a room smaller than my previous apartment's kitchen till I could find a place of my own. It had been raining nonstop for almost two weeks and I found myself sitting in that room alone all weekend for the second time, leaving only to grab something to eat. I've never been a social person and hadn't warmed up to anyone enough to feel comfortable going out in town with them yet. Needless to say I spent a lot of time of the Internet. I didn't want to go to Japan. Nowhere in my preferences for my next duty station did I ask for something overseas. I wanted a port out of Florida or San Diego or Washington. Nope. Overseas I went. I was bitter, lonely, missing my family something fierce, and coming off of a very bad relationship that had me thinking that global war wouldn't be such a bad change of pace for the world in general. I don't recall where I found them and I only recall that it was the summer between season 1 and 2. It seemed colorful ponies were popping up everywhere I went and it was annoying the hell out of me. My Little Pony? Again? Seriously. Didn't we get enough of that crap a long time ago? Wait...people are watching this? On purpose? WTF?! Okay, I have to see just how bad this show really is if a bunch of people are actually getting into this; they have to be doing this just to mess with folks. So I watched the first episode. Then the second because I had to finish the premiere. It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad at all. It was fun. It felt genuine. And I felt happy. Like suddenly I was allowed to be anything but the person I had made myself into; that I was allowed to laugh and enjoy something innocent and even shed a tear or two if I wanted. So I watched another episode. And another. I binged the whole first season in an all-nighter. I was hooked. Then I found the fandom and fanfics and friends and music and so on. And just like that I wasn't as lonely anymore. I didn't feel like the world in general had just given up, and that made me want to do better if for no other reason than to be a better friend and a better person to those around me.
  6. Definitely the show while the seasons are airing but I often switch over to fan material during the months between. Even the work of beginners can give me a good laugh or a smile but I've been less of a consumer than during those early years when I watched/viewed/read everything I could find.
  7. Who's your favorite villain and why?

Flurry Heart. It's always the cute baby the ends up being the centerpiece of destruction.
  8. Which is the first episode you've watched?

Seems like I'm in the same S1E1 boat as many folks, though I didn't think I'd care for the show till around the fourth episode. Makes me wonder if I'd still give it a try today if I were just discovering the show.
  9. Post yer desktops

Wow. There's a lot here that I'm going to have to put into my desktop rotation. Mine's a bit simpler.
  10. Fandom's classics

A couple of the first fanfics that I read back in the day were these two classics: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/20685/sunny-skies-all-day-long https://www.fimfiction.net/story/45217/the-battle-of-fort-book Great for a quick afternoon of readings.

  12. STAR CITIZEN

That's a good plan. I wish I had tempered my enthusiasm back when I was single and had far too much disposable income for my own good. Now I'm sitting on a lot of ships that I had originally wanted to earn in-game, but they're all tied to one the old pledge packages from the Kickstarter days. I envy your smaller, more manageable fleet. I'm always looking for cross-org affiliations since UFS is but a loose grouping of folks with a single-minded love for fuel hauling and refining. My starfighting skills are nothing to brag about, which is why I have nothing that could be classified as a light fighter, but I'll give your folks a look-see.
  13. STAR CITIZEN

Mining has never had that much of an appeal to me but I completely agree that the mechanics certainly sound interesting. My biggest hope for a lucrative mechanic is that of salvaging. Neither do I have but a friend or two that I could count on as steady crewmates to employ onboard the likes of a Reclaimer, so my fingers are crossed that there will be enough out there to keep an NPC crew paid. Ah yes, the Reliant. The ship that I disliked from a design point but came to admire once I saw it in flight. The rotational wing is a lot of fun to watch. I have a Sen for some light science but I think I'll melt it down since it doesn't feature built-in accommodations. What org have you joined? I'm currently part of UEE Fuel Services. It's like a Starfarer fan club, but if you ever need someone in a turret or want a lift in my Vanguard I'm always up for a bit of a skirmish.
  14. STAR CITIZEN

She's the only ship I have that's original. Every other one has either been melted at some point or purchased with store credits. For all the options for fighters and bombers and military craft it's the civie jobs that excite me the most. Will I be seeing you as a fellow space fuel trucker or are you content with chewing up asteroids in your Orion?
