Things You Hate In Games You Love

The gummi ship sections in the original Kingdom Hearts. Compared to the rest of the game, they're just so boring and monotonous.
  2. Just a simple question: Why do you like your favorite games? Just pick a game you like (or why not list all of them xD) and tell every reason why you enjoy them. Even if you have just watched somebody play it and you think it's really cool, tell me the reasons why you'd buy it. I'd love to hear any replies!

  4. There's not a lot of games that I can do this with and still enjoy as much as the first time I played it (if not more), but by far one of the games I can and have done this with constantly is Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. When I was younger, I would actually make it a point to play these games to 100% in succession at least once a year. While I don't have the time to do that now, I'm still not against doing it and would gladly use the remasters to continue that trend.

    Games You...

Games you hate that everyone else loves or Games you love that everyone else hates Please keep it civil people. Former - Borderlands 1 & 2. Hated the first one and I played all the DLC on the GOTY edition. Tried number 2 and only found one of the problems with the first game fixed with others made worse. - Call of Duty. Too many in too short a time span. One every year doesn't mean improvement. - Sports games. Same reason as above. - Grand Theft Auto IV. Got incredibly bored of the story only 1/4th of the way through the game. Only fun the game had to offer were cheats. - Metal Gear Solid series. Series plot is complicated for the sake of being complicated, not being deep, meaningful, or interesting like it pretends to be. I feel like playing the series to understand the plot would be the equivalent of homework. - Demon's/Dark Souls. I understand that's it's not a game for everyone, but personally, hair ripping challenge does not equal a fun game to me. - Sly Cooper Trilogy. Liked number 1, hated 2, felt 3 was meh. - Assassin's Creed. Same problem as Call of Duty. Only difference is that I didn't feel the first was good enough to warrant a greatest hits release, let alone 20 sequels. - Fallout 3/New Vegas. 3 had "so much to do" despite me wandering the wasteland for multiple hours looking for something to do only to get killed by some random enemy due to high level gap or lack of useful weaponry. Liked New Vegas until the end required me to do more side quests than I already dumped multiple hours into before even contemplating the end missions due to (again) insanely high leveled enemies and lack of useful weapons/ammo for useful weapons. Not to mention the severe lack of healing items that healed more than half a point. - Pokémon. Worse than Call of Duty in the sense of repackaging the same game and charging full price for it. While they take longer to release a new title, that makes it all the worse when it's basically a carbon cutout of the previous games from the last 20 years. Lost interest from Black and White on due to the story misleading me into thinking that it would delve into more interesting dilemmas than "leader of evil group wants to take over the world with Pokémon/be the best trainer in the world" - Skyrim. Similar problems to Fallout. Not a lot of healing items and you die rather easily (though not as easy as in Fallout) and while it actually had a lot to do, the game does a poor job of explaining it in enough detail to where I actually bother to try doing it. - Super Mario/Mario Kart/Mario Party. Exact same problem as Pokémon. Only difference is the games are usually only rereleased with each new console. Only exception to my dislike is Smash Bros. - Bioshock Infinite. I don't exactly hate this game, but I didn't really see what people found so great about it. Played through it, but didn't find it having as much of an impact on me as the original Bioshock. Honestly, I don't really have any games that I like that everyone else hates. At least not to an extreme degree like the games above. Probably the closest is Final Fantasy XIII. I didn't think the game was too bad and I liked the battle mechanics and how you had to be pretty strategic in some fights to survive.

I'm in a Game rut, pls halp.

I've played so many games, and now I'm running out of games to play. Please recommend me a game. Examples of some of my favorite games (old and new) I don't really have a defined genre of game that I like, and I'm willing to try nearly any kind of game. Send me some recommendations, pls. What I mostly look for in a game is usually a good single player experience, whether that be good game mechanics, a good story, or the like.

    Retro games

Anyone else on here that likes retro games? I thought it would be a cool thing to have a thread for it considering we already have individual categories for Nintendo, Playstation and Xbox. Do you have any favorite old games you really like playing? Maybe want to share a story about it, or maybe you like collecting stuff? Post it all here! My favorite consoles are probably SNES, N64, Playstation and Gamecube. (Not really sure if I would call GC retro but yeah, definitely not current)
  11. There comes a time when entertainment transcends itself and evolves into a different beast with its own instincts for us to tame. From puppeteering to animation, from stereoscopes to modern film masterpieces. Humanity's thirst to create, experience and enjoy the surreal has brought us far into the bones of what makes us tick. And with every piece of technology, we go from basic materials like paper and cardboard for board games, to the highly sophisticated device we call our gaming stations. In 1972, Atari's Allan Alcorn was tasked with creating a game based on "Virtual Tennis" he had played at college as a warm-up exercise to show his skills. Allan took it one step further and changed how the game was played by adding the ability to bounce the ball at angles, instead of just straight ahead. When the game was done, it was called "Pong" and it was the world's first game console. The world's first version of Pong Oh how joyous the transition, as mortals attempted to reach into another world, changing how the false environment reacts to our input in a final act of challenging the notion of god. What stops our own reality from being merely a game by higher beings with superevolved intellects and understanding of the universe? To realize that the numbers we input into a computer translates into actions, emotions, rules, etc of another "world", we can all agree how terrifying it must be to ponder the theory of whether humanity is the same. Made up of a sequence of inconsequential numbers. That our actions hold no meaning other than those perceived by our own ignorant minds. A famous painting of Zhuangzi dreaming he was a butterfly. Zhuangzi is an ancient Chinese text from 476-221 BC written by Zhuang Zhou as a foundational text on Daoism. In one of his stories "Zhuangzi Dreams of Being a Butterfly", the story goes: "Once, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting and fluttering about, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn't know that he was Zhuang Zhou. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable Zhuang Zhou. But he didn't know if he was Zhuang Zhou who had dreamt he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that he was Zhuang Zhou. Between Zhuang Zhou and the butterfly there must be some distinction! This is called the Transformation of Things." This is the fundamental issues brought up in Simulated Reality Theories. How would mankind be able to tell if they were within a simulated reality, or in Zhuangzi's case a dream, if we do not even have the rules to follow when distinguishing them? Humanity's greatest struggle is always of the consciousness, whether or not the human mind learns of the actual universe and its principles or rather the universe creating principles simply to humor us. It is foolish not to wonder about the impact we have when technology advances further and further. When games itself become capable of creating life in a separate yet similar world, we realize that there is another final frontier. The earth, sea and space are all physical frontiers for mankind to explore and discover. However, programming and gaming has created another campaign we must take. Is it possible to find out about our reality from learning more about false ones? What distinguishes Battlefront above from reality? If we were in the game, would we even be able to tell the difference? Let's say we agree that humanity is in this supposed simulated reality and we are all being monitored by otherworldly beings who surpass us in intellect. Where would this being even come from? Aliens? Demons? Parallel dimensions? Actually, the answer could be ourselves. Technological Singularity is a theory that suggests that because of the ability for technology to compute at a higher rate, we may accidentally invent artificial Superintelligence that surpasses even mankind's most gifted being. This will trigger a technological growth due to the superintelligence wishing to improve itself, thus, making itself the most powerful device in the universe. Humans would be toys to these superior creatures. In Science Fiction author Vernor Vinge words: "Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended." Of course, Vernor's theory of superintelligence being achieved in 30 years was not proven true, however, his words still stand. If humanity ever reaches that level of technology, humans will find themselves back in the food chain. The big bang created us, we created technology and technology will create other things. Each generation of intelligent beings trumping the last. And as we've seen with automated cash registers and self-driving cars, stumbling upon superintelligence might not be as farfetched as it seems. We might be on the cusp of the end of the human era, not through the death of our reality, but the replacement of it with a simulated experience. Maybe not the death of our bodies, but the death of consequence as we wander through the universe of a game that means absolutely nothing. So I propose we make a pony game based on Star Wars Battlefront. Luna could be the Empire and Celestia could be the Rebels. That sorta deal.

    Some other Games.

Since I already asked if they were some people ready to play Dota 2 with me, I try to find some for Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands:The Pre-Sequel or Starbound too. If you have other games you want to suggest or you want to try to find people for your game why not do it here! ;D Also I'm always up for chatting/speaking. I also added Warframe now, still open for suggestions.
