My Little Pony: The Manga - A Day in the Life in Equestria Vol. 1 paperback; black & white; 120 pages; $10.99; Seven Seas Entertainment; June 18, 2019 Product Description: The world of My Little Pony comes alive in this distinctive manga series that spotlights each of the Mane 6 and a host of other characters from the land of Equestria! When Pinkie Pie lends a hoof to help Twilight Sparkle and Spike clean up the castle Library, she discovers a mysterious mirror with the power to gaze into alternate realities. Upon entering the portal-like mirror, Pinkie Pie sets off a chain of events that could spell doom for Equestria! Follow this adventure–and many more–in this hilarious new manga series for fans of all ages. DERPY: "Doc! Doc! There's a claw machine on the Moon." DR. WHOOVES: "Don't be silly! It's probably just a smudge on the lens." My Review: I didn't initially have high hopes for My Little Pony: The Manga; the quality of such licensed products can be wildly uneven. However, I was delightfully surprised. What we have here is a collection of seven stories and a sketch gallery set in the world of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. We have a nice variety of pony tales by writer David Lumsdon and artist Shiei starring the Mane 6 and Spike, with many supporting characters such as Princess Celestia, Dr. Whooves, Derpy, the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Flim & Flam, Zecora, and Discord. The art is extremely cute, obviously based on the style of the show, but even more manga-fied. The slice-of-life stories are clearly told and simple enough (mostly) for a young child to follow. I would rate this as age 7 and up. Recommended. Volume 2 is scheduled to be released on April 7, 2020 according to Amazon.com.
