Military Coup in Turkey - Military group takes over Ankara

So it's been confirmed, there's been a military coup in Turkey, ousting president Erdogan and taking over Ankara and shutting down bridges around Istanbul. The military promises to form a 'council of peace', but Turkish president Erdogan condemns the armed seizure of power as a move against democracy. Erdogan himself has managed to escape and has face-timed reporters; he's ok.

 

Facebook and everything fun has been blacklisted in Turkey by the military.

Not clear actually right now if it has succeeded who this is or what the coup is actually about (other than power).  The chief of the military is under house arrest by the military.  Police and Military seem to be exchanging gun fire.

Oh boy, another one of these!

They've done enough coups in recent years for the population to not even care. Probably the most notable thing about this whole fiasco will be the increased wait times at the border checkpoints.

And - Oh, Surprise! - the president takes the opportunity to silence the opposition and cleans the judiciary of unloved judges.

Well, that is very convient for him, who would have expected that? What a lucky man he is...

I used to be concerned for the Turkey, but now I start to think that the people voted for this, and that is what they deserve. Let's see how long it will take until they realize what is happening around them.
