Where does Sunset Shimmer Live\how does she support herself?

This one has been bugging me for a while.

Where does Sunset Shimmer actually live in the EQG universe, and how does she actually support herself.

Does she live with a foster family, was she adopted by human parents, does she have some kind of scholarship?

Or did she murder the other world Sunset and take her life.

The Christmas special seems to suggest that she lives alone, or at least she doesn't have any kind of family in the Canterlot high world.

The shorts we're supposed to get next year may delve into these kinds of questions people have been asking since the first movie. 

All things considered they'll end up being 3 standard MLP episode style releases focused around some world building and shenanigans. The sequel hook at the end of LoE may point to them, however that seems rather unlikely as magic running rampant would be a better focus for it's own movie rather than 3 22 minute episodes.

 

My headcanon is that she brought some equestrian currency with her the first time she arrived in the human world. Considering the price of gold she probably has enough to rent a place and live comfortably for some time.

Given that Rarity puts about a million bucks worth of Gems on a hat without blinking, and the fact that the gems that she dug up for the diamond dogs would have been worth 100s of millions in our word, it's reasonable to think that maybe gems are common in Equestria, and have much lower values than they do here (Spike pet sat for over a million dollars worth of gems). Maybe she had some diamond earnings or a necklace that she sold for cash with the one porn broker who would give money to an 11 year old girl without ID?

Let's be honest, they're going to be 3 Power Pony style shorts with combined run-time equal to about 1 episode, and they will mostly be advertizements for the toys.

Sadly, world building usually only happens in fan-fiction.

They briefly tackled Sunset's background in the Christmas special comic, and that then they closed the door on it. I'd love to see some background in the shorts, but Hasbro rarely even gives us background in the actual show.

This one's been argued out. Some fans simply took a single comment out of context interpreted it as meaning tat the comics weren't canon.

Jim Miller states that this was a mistake made by readers.

I don't know how to link to a twitter post, but if you look at his feed on 4.45pm on April 29 2015 he says

"I Never said the comics weren't canon. The whole thing was misconstrued".

Both the show and the comics are supervised by the same team. Megan McCarthy runs both of them.

Except that G1 Wheeljack died in the canonical year 2005, and Sunset Shimmer clearly lives later than that as evidenced by the phone and other technology in the show.

I pretty much thought the same thing, she brought stuff from Equestria and sold it at high prices. I hope the shorts show us just a little of Sunset's life outside of the school

Given Hasbro's history, we're not likely to get very much back story in them.

In 4 movies, 8 books, and 2 comic specials we only get two small pieces of backstory about Starlight. We know that she left Equestria because she thought that Celestia was deliberately holding her back, and that she was estranged from her family before she left Equestria.

She was the only villain who didn't appear in the Fiendship is magic comics. Even Discord got a cameo.

I think that Hasbro are going to continue the trend of "always moving forwards".

She used to beat up those nerds for milk monies every day for a few years. Even with her transformation into goody goody but still kind of a B Sunset, she has that stack of human bits to live off of for years to come.
