Intro

 

Location: White Giant Star Cetri Alpha, Cetri Alpha III

Dominant Race: Human

Population: 16,000,000,000

Relative Earth Time: 16:00

 

A large cityscape covering a majority of the planet, Cetri Alpha III is a travel hub and large tourist location due to its wide range of attractions, from nightclubs, parks, theaters, and many others to keep even the most impatient busy. Countless ships arrive here everyday, many to refuel and continue their journey. The planet is also good for mercs looking for some extra pixels.


Some word has gotten around in the lower areas of the city, that an old apex woman is looking for some able bodied mercs to handle an assassination of a heavily guarded target, and she’s paying quite well, even for a job like that.

General Rules

 

This RP will abide by General Forum rules, violation of these rules will result in being kicked out and retconned.

 

Additional Rules:

  1. No godmodding

  2. No using player knowledge

  3. No derailment

  4. No breaking the 4th wall obviously (unless your character is crazy)

  5. Keep character development short, if it is 2 pages worth, try to wrap it up.

 

Godmodding or being OP will result in me doing the same to your character. I. Will. Smite you…

 

As for character development, I don’t mind you doing it or how often you do, just try not to draw it out too much, one of my RPs literally had a character development last 3 pages. Normally wouldn’t be bad but the “nature” of said development involved going into someone's mind which supposedly took a few seconds in the outside world. So we had to wait until I lost patience. We didn’t have a problem since.

 

So yeah there’s your warning.

 

Starting Out

For purposes of the RP, no one will have a ship, and normally gets around the galaxy via public transports. This is because in reality, a personal ship capable of FTL travel not only would be expensive initially, but also would require tons of maintenance. (that and I already got one for you guys to travel around in, you’ll learn more later)

 

Initial gear is limited to steel level, and armor does not have to appear as the armor in game (some of them get quite ridiculous).

 

You can have as many pixels as you choose, but cannot go over 10,000P.

Oh by the way, I’m keeping the currency. They appear as small yellow cubes, easily carried around with “Voxels” looking like a typical credit stick and worth bulk pixels. Each pixel is equivalent to 1$.

 

You can have a virtual account of course, it’s the future.

 

You will be starting in the one of the lower districts (it’s where the bars, nightclubs, and black markets are) but security is high enough that no one is gonna shank you in an alley and steal your wallet.

Human

 

 

Culture: Modern/Futuristic

Species: Human (duh)

 

General Info: Info on humans in Starbound is a WIP, so I’ll summarize to avoid confusion. Resources depleted on Earth and a giant tentacle being ripped it to pieces, Earth is dead.

 

The End.

 

Other than that it’s basically just you know… humans…

 

Restrictions: None, barring copying other races, due to the Humans superior adaptiveness and broad diversity, they have the widest range of personalities.

 

 


 

Apex (this race currently has the most information about them)

 

 

Culture: Futuristic

Species: Ape-People

 

General Info: The Apex were close to human in appearance until a breakthrough in research into accelerated evolution led to the creation of the “Vestigi-Evo Process” (VEP). The VEP allowed the Apex to trade physical devolution for intellectual evolution.

 

The Apex operate under a collectivist regime controlled by the MiniKnog (The Ministry of Scientific Progression). Each Apex dedicates his/her life to the survival and progression of the Apex as a whole. The nature of this regime allowed the VEP to be administered species-wide in less than 10 years.

 

The most honored members of Apex society are those chosen by the MiniKnog to donate their bodies to furthering the VEP. Those chosen for the experimentation process are rarely seen again, but their names are said to be inscribed on the wall of the chosen which sits deep within the Ministry.

 

For a time, the MiniKnog received criticism from several prominent Apex for what appeared to be a bias towards selecting only the poorest in society to be members of the chosen. However, this criticism was silenced when the critics themselves were selected.

 

There are whispers of a rebel group ready to denounce the MiniKnog and lead the Apex into revolution... but in Apex society even discussion of dissension is punishable by death.

 

Bio: Apex are mammals similar both to humans and the "great apes" commonly found on Earth. Before the introduction of the VEP, it is likely they resembled humans even more closely than they currently do, with the "devolution" effect of the VEP causing their more ape-like features (I.E. greater body hair, monochromatic eyes).

 

Distinguishing features of the species include their body hair, absent mostly on their faces, palms and likely the bottoms of their feet and stomachs. They have large ears and distinguished facial hair (often females will also have facial hair), and particularly monochromatic eyes, taking on a glossy black color.

 

Society: Apex society seems to be based around a technocratic totalitarian regime which prioritises the advancement of their species through a highly scientific governmentality. It appears that this regime has held power since before the Apex began experimenting with VEP, which is the primary reason the species was so quickly and so uniformly altered by the process.

 

At the center of this power structure is the Ministry of Scientific Progression (Miniknog). The main drive of Miniknog is to ensure the ever-escalating socio-scientific development of the race, evolving to become ever more intelligent and technologically advanced. This motivation can be seen both in the systematic efficiency of the species-wide implementation of VEP over only a few short generations, as well as in the technology and architecture of Apex star vessels and planetside facilities, all of which share a uniform ultramodern design which is both highly utilitarian and futuristic.

 

Apex recorded history only extends backwards a few hundred years, earlier records apparently having been deliberately destroyed by the regime in order to deracinate modern Apex society from any sense of loyalty to or investment in their presumably premodern ancestors.

 

Restrictions: Cannot be a member of the MiniKnog. Will have facial hair, males with full beards and females with thick sideburns minimum.

 

Optional traits: Can be naturally intelligent in multiple fields; can be a member of the MiniKnog rebellion (in secret).

 

 


 

Avian

 

 

Culture: Aztec/Mayan

Species: Bird-People

 

General Information: Avian culture revolves around the worship of Kluex, the winged god of the Aether. Kluex was originally a prominent judge and ruler of the Avians who played a critical role in the Avian's advancement into the space age: some years after his death, he was deified by his people.

Avians have since separated into two factions; the Stargazers, who believe in and worship Kluex, and the Grounded, who reject Kluex and often deny his very existence.

 

Stargazers believe they were stripped of their wings as punishment for entering the mortal world and will only regain their wings in the afterlife should they achieve absolution through worship. Throughout their history Avians have always been a primitive race, making little scientific progress. Avian numbers were beginning to dwindle when a superior race took pity and bestowed the gift of advanced technology upon them. This new found tech allowed the Avians to flourish and spread across the universe, building temples of worship as they went.

 

Though rarer, Avians have been known to stray from their religious culture. Dubbed the Grounded, these Avians became outcasts and find solace amongst other races.

 

Avian soldiers are trained from birth to be fierce warriors and will protect their settlements at any cost. Avian weaponry may look primitive at first glance, but the incorporation of advanced technology makes them particularly formidable. Avian generals forge wings for themselves that function much like jetpacks.

 

Restrictions: If Stargazer, worships Kluex and defends his name, also despises Grounded; if Grounded, defies Kluex and outcasted by the Stargazers. (must choose one of two)

 

Optional traits: Beak can be of any type (except maybe tucan) and feathers can be a variety of colors. If Grounded, can be a pirate, ARRRRGH! If Stargazer, Has access to more advanced avian tech.

 

 


 

Glitch

 

 

Culture: Medieval

Species: Robots

 

General Information: The Glitch were part of a program invented and built by an unknown race of enormous intelligence as a means of simulating the social and technological progress of a non-human civilization.

 

These experiments took place in a vast number of regions across the universe. Despite changing a plethora of variables, each civilization eventually destroyed itself when its technological progression began to overtake its social progression. The only exception was the Glitch.

 

For reasons unknown a fault caused the Glitch to become stuck early in the simulation, where they now remain. The experiment long abandoned, the Glitch are unable to shake their medieval values and beliefs. They're entirely unaware of their origin and are built to experience feelings and desires, like all other sentient organisms.

 

According to Tiy's description of the race, the Glitch apparently reproduce when a pair of Glitch literally construct a new Glitch from scratch. Occasionally, however, errors emerge in the process, and this results in Glitches who are fully self-aware and freed of their medieval programming. These Glitch (often called "outcasts") are hunted down mercilessly by their own kind, who deem them as being insane: some, however, escape, forming villages across the cosmos.

 

Restrictions: States emotion or intention first, then continues statement (ex. “Observation. It appears to be very old.”). Sees technology as “Magic”. Is an outcasted Glitch who achieved self awareness. Does not use guns (does not include crossbows).

 

Optional traits: “skin” can be any metallic color, can have various attachments to the head.



 

Hylotl

 

 

Culture: East Asian

Species: Aquatic-People

 

General Information: Not much is known about the Hylotl. Through reading the codex logs, it can be found that the Hylotl are a peaceful and empathic race. They concern themselves with beauty, perfection, and culture, and have a strong urge to share this with other organisms. They are pacifists and herbivores.

 

Unfortunately, despite their noble ideals, the Hylotl's kind nature has regularly put them on the receiving end of another race's weapons; recently the Hylotl were evicted from their planet by the Floran. It is also revealed in the codexes that the Avian regularly use Hylotl as food for their evil dictators. Florans (tribes) often enjoy Hylotl flesh as well.


 

Restrictions: Uneasy around Florans. Is more formal than other races and sees simple as “crude”. Loves arcades machines (they have some weird obsession with them). Can not eat meat.

 

Optional traits: Scales can be a variety of colors and fins can be a variety of styles. You do not have to be a pacifist, Hylotls do know how to fight.

 

 


 

Floran

 

 

Culture: Tribal

Species: Plant-People

 

General Information: One would expect a race of sentient humanoid plants to be peaceful, nature-loving environmentalists – that presumption is what allows this hyper-aggressive tribal civilization to thrive. Unwitting explorers are prey of choice to the carnivorous Florans, who frequently salvage or reverse engineer the technology they bring to enable their colonization of the stars.

 

Introducing space travel to the primitive Florans had the undesired effect of Floran colonies spanning across star systems, each with their own customs and levels of aggression. Despite this, individual Florans have been known to split apart from their society to lead their own lives in isolation or in the solace of other races, at the cost of being cut off from the collective and considered enemies of all flora for good.

 

Though a unisex race (they appear to have genders however, but this is purely cosmetic, you can choose what gender your Floran appears to be and sounds like, but they will have no gender), Floran culture values survival through reproduction and expansion over environmentalism or any perceived bond to Mother Nature. Funeral rituals and wars with rival factions are commonplace, though it remains unclear whether it’s out of conservation or simple tradition.

 

Their aggressive nature appears to be borne from a lack of a concept of non-plant life as opposed to outright contempt. Owing to their relatively young age as a species, this tenet dominates their culture and justifies their treatment of visiting races, though there are signs of some beginning to question this, implying that Floran individuals may not be inherently “evil” as previously thought, but that they are able to make peaceful societies that are able to live in harmony with the other non-plant races.

 

Restrictions: At least slightly hostile/nervous around Hylotl. Is an outcasted Floran who left his/her tribe (a Floran wouldn’t leave otherwise). If habilitated (not savage anymore), can use guns. If feral, speaks in third person and has a lisp, can not use guns or any technology (effectively).

 

Optional traits: Can be feral, using primitive weapons with extreme deadliness. Can be habilitated, while retaining Floran traits, can actually hold a conversation before rambling on about stabbing something and suppress lisp. Can have a slurred speech, with a lisp. Body can be any natural color found in the wilds (yes even pink) and “hair” can be any plant (besides trees) or just simply leaves.

 

 


 

Unplayable - Novakid (they may appear at times during the RPG)

 

 

Culture: Wild West

Species: Gas-Based Humanoids

 

General Information: Forged eons ago in the fusion furnaces of a now-dead star, the Novakid are a perfect example of nature’s emergent beauty. These creatures, described by a human astronomer as “interstellar gas-bag people”, have no known single origin point: that information is long lost, as the Novakid have little to no desire to record their history, or even pass it on to their offspring. Though they are (generally) more intelligent and intuitive than the “fleshy” races, their attention spans are lacking. This does not make them any less effective in combat, but has the effect of restricting their technology research (and any groundbreaking research is just built good enough before they lose interest in it ).

 

The force that drives the Novakid is contained within the brand on their faces. Charged with huge amounts of energy, these pieces of metal generate the hard plasma “shells” which stop their constituent gases from leaking – if a Novakid is depleted of his or her vital gases, the energy contained within their brand is instantly vented into the very fabric of spacetime, leaving only a twisted metal symbol and a nearly undetectable warping of light around the area of death.

 

Since the Novakid have a short attention span, diplomatic relations can be strained at times. Because of their completely different composition to other lifeforms, Novakid are sometimes unable to grasp the nuances of interracial social interactions, and have thus attained a slightly dubious reputation amongst other races. In particular, an Avian diplomat reportedly described a Novakid he met as “dense”, and elaborated upon his statement by mentioning that the Novakid in question had cheerily asked him if his god, Kluex, was real.

 

Novakids could have some major aspects in common with Sun/Stars, an example being that the colour of their " gas " may show their current lifespan, and how long they have left ( White, Blue, Yellow, Red ), this is all speculation, though.

Description:Following the unexpected destruction of Earth,Yoko found her way to Cetri Alpha III on one of Team Gurren's mechas,unfortunately, that  mecha is now defunct and was sold off for food and water. She now resides in an apartment. Yoko's appearance is as follows: " she occasionally had lightly tanned skin due to spending most of her time outdoors in the sun and commonly wore a leather black and red flame-designed bikini top with black rubber-leather short-shorts, and a white studded belt. Below, Yoko wore baby pink thigh-high socks and white mid-calf zip-up boots designed with red flames emerging from her grey soles. She also wore black open-knuckled half-gloves complete with round wrist pieces studded with spherical yellow studs. Around her neck, Yoko wore a tall white and pink patterned scarf with thin red stripes. In lieu of signature headwear, Yoko wore a white cracked skull hair accessory on the left side of her head as well two yellow chopsticks that kept her hair up, the latter of which also doubled as weapons."

 

Weapon:Steel Hunting bow. Two chopsticks for quick defense.

Armor:none for now

Other items:1,000 pixels in the bank.Also a Quiver containing about 500 arrows.

Background: A support sniper for Team Gurren,specialized in the takedown of Gunmen,a mecha used by Beastmen.

It is going to be a pain in the butt finding a sniper rifle....

Personality: Normal (If we are talking about the in-game stances), otherwise a serious kind of guy most of the time, sarcasm will occasionally jump into play whenever he disagrees about something.

Faction: None

Description: Average size guy, long black hair and green eyes, clean shaven, wears comfortable clothes (black jacket on white shirt, gray cargo pants) over his scavenger armor.

Weapons: Hunting knife and dual pistols.

Armor: United Systems Colonial Marines militia issued scavenger armor.

Other Items: A basic Matter Manipulator and a bank balance of 2,235  pixels.

Background:

One of the youngest members of a long line of renowned space explorers, Mike always wanted to eventually live up to his family name. His interest in space exploration began as soon as he was able to read, having found his family's many travel logs. Alongside school he slowly learned most of everything a space explorer should know.

Eager to start his independent carrier (A family tradition is that each new member should earn his renown by himself) Mike joined the USCM and took part in the pilot's training program, learning combat and survival skills along the way, as well as planetary and space engagement procedures. At the end of the training he was put in the local militia reserves, to be called upon in case of (potential) interplanetary conflict, this allowed him to go back to his original plan...only to find out that the meager amount of pixels he earned was in no way sufficient for even the smallest FTL capable ship, and that was without taking into account all the exploration modules and gear he would need.

As the main objective remained unobtainable for now (purchasing your own equipment is also part of family tradition) Mike decided to put his time in the USCM to good use, wearing his standard issue armor he spent the majority of his earnings on his weapons and a Matter Manipulator and began his career as a freelancer, taking mercenary jobs and hunting down bounties, unfortunately not having a ship also meant a limited range of operations as he had to stick to inhabited space only, and public transport could only go so fast, as a result finding jobs was not easy and often not very well remunerated.

This was undoubtedly about to change when he accepted to meet an old Apex woman with a job proposal that sounded to good to be true...

Personality : Uncertain, mostly habilitated with some traces of feral left.

 

Faction : None

 

Description :   Yellow-ish skin color, Orange colored foliage in a blowback style, slightly shorter than the average human. Has a scar on his right arm. Image for reference :

Weapons : Steel tier Spear with a bundle of green leaves tied to the rear of the hilt


Armor : None (Starter Floran apparel)

 

Other Items : A potted yellow flower, a toolkit and a green and yellow Snake called Vine

 

Background : Sash abandoned his village after spending most of this life stuck as the middle child in a family constantly competing for their renowned hunter father's attention. Most of his time was spent with the town's forgemaster or scavenging with any group of hunters willing to not treat him as a complete liability.

After another night of being looked upon by his own kin he sneaked out of the village. After two days of wandering he stumbled across an Apex trade convoy hiding from pirates in the sector. The Apex took mercy on the starving Floran after he warned them about a Hunting party in the area and took Sash in, letting him bunk in their cargo bay.

The first year on board was particularly hard, adapting to the technologically superior races. Most of his time was spent with the ship mechanics, picking up how to properly handle technology as the rest of the crew didn't want a savage around. After he was almost thrown out because of a blaster pistol that blew up while he was tampering with it, earning  him the scar on his arm, he decided it's time to move on and left on the next port they stopped at. Has a fear of water (large bodies only ) and can't swim. Less afraid of fire than the average Floran and handy with a wrench.

I barely know the lore of Starbound anyway, it's hard to come up with a character for a game I've never played. Also, I'm just terrible at making characters in general. haha

A bit shorter than the average female glitch

Knave set. She wears her armor under her clothes and only wears the helmet during a mission.

Background:

Daughter of a noble, she has been living with her family for 2 years when they discovered she was an "outcast". Being thrown manu militari in jail waiting to be executed the next day, she's seen her salvation in a human, Anna, a freelancer that broke her out of the domain and escaped to Cetri Aplha III with her. On this planet, she's acquired quite a reputation as freelancer, following Anna in all her missions from material gathering to bodyguarding, as she did her best to complete her education.

Years passed and a disease took away Anna. Since this day, Sis has been working alone, proposing her services on the local black market.

Description: A young, scrappy looking Avian trying to find his place in the universe. He shunned the so called 'god' of his people in order to find something he can really care about. Light blue feathers with a quail beak.

Weapons: Brick-on-a-Stick Prime (Steel Hammer)

Armor: Hatchling set

Other Items: 2 Coconuts, Bug Net (Gotta eat somehow!)

Savings: 3,423px

Oh I forgot to mention something, it's minor but could be a fun element to play with since we have a floran character, Florans can feed of light like normal plants since they are well... plant people. Not enough to sustain them, but enough to feed them a bit.

 

Also RP will start sometime tomorrow. Hopefully.
