Nuke's Equestria Girls' series Review

Recommended Posts

I will now finish the rest of the Rainbow Rock Shorts. These ones take place during and after the events of Rainbow Rocks if what the shorts profiles say. The first on this list is Shake your Tail short.

1. Shake your Tail is the seventh equestria girl short. It is written Amy Keating Rogers and Daniel Ingram and the storyboard artist is Carrie Mombourquette.

The song was first revealed in a clip short from Entertainment Weekly. This short and song was adapted into the Rainbow Rocks book chapter's 6, 16, and 17. According to the book both Shake your Tail and a Perfect Day for Fun are figments of Twilight's imagination as she misses her humane friends that much and imagines herself having fun with them doing such activities.

The commentary for the Rainbow Rocks sequence also revealed Carrie Mombourquette also did the film's own segment for Shake your Tail.

Now, for the most part, this short is pretty much a musical short that for the most part just shows the humane five and Twilight Sparkle trying to figure out what theme and aesthetic they want for the party. This would involve going through each of the humane 6's choices such as Pinkie Pie for liau theme, Applejack for a rodeo, Twilight a study session, Rainbow Dash sports, Fluttershy a petting zoo, and Rarity a masquerade until Rainbow Dash decides to combine it all. Now, I'm not exactly a fan of shake your tail song, and especially as I'm not a fan of this short. To make matters worse, the song doesn't match with the short's synopsis well as it says it was supposed to show the humane 6 trying to figure out how to prep the party, but the song itself doesn't convey that so you're left confused and wondering what just happened and what is happening. Really, the short should've been something else.

Grade: Meh: D+

2. A perfect day for fun is the eight rainbow rocks short in my reviews. Amy Keating Rogers and Daniel Ingram wrote the lyrics for this short and Emmett Hall is the storyboard artist.

The song's name is ''With My Best Friends". The short was adapted into chapter one of the Rainbow Rock's novelization where it was revealed that just like Shake your Tail, it was also a figment of Twilight's imagination as she shows how much she misses her humane friends and imagines of how they can have fun together.

This one here the girls are having fun at a carnival and with the exception of Applejack, speak no dialogue in it as they use their smart phones to text, expressions, and actions to convey what's happening. For the most part, it's just the girls having fun at a carnival before they have to go on stage to perform as the Rainbooms for the Canterlot High crowd. Compared to Shake your Tail, With my best friends is better as it's able to convey the character's actions and story much better in comparison so it fitted better with the short than Shake your tail did. Also seeing the rainbooms only expressing outside of the song through non vocal expressions besides AJ is a bit of fun too. Overall, this one is a much better done short i comparison and one that I like despite being another pop song.

Grade: passing: B

3. My Past is not today is the ninth short in my review. It was written by Jayson Thiessen, Mike Vogel, and Brian Lenard, and the storyboard artist is Katrina Hadley.

In the barnes and noble special edition for Equestria Girls: Sunset Shimmer's time to shine, there included a draft of the song in Sunset Shimmer's letter to Rarity.

In this short, I really loved of how they went to show off Sunset Shimmer's character progression from Rainbow Rocks where she would lament of how she had allowed her desire for power to corrupt her and now wishes to make amends for it. Notably, when she was introduced to friendship from Twilight and humane five, she would describe this as a rebirth 'like a phoenix burning bright' as the brilliant song would describe it. At the end, we see her showing off her fiery wings to highlight her new chance at life and of course her new outfit. This is not only the best short I've seen yet, but it could be argued to be even the best thing from EQG. This is a fantastic way to show and highlight Sunset's development to becoming a better person and her vow to be the person she wants to be.

Grade: Passing A+

4. Friendship through the ages is the tenth short in my review. It is written by Jayson Thiessen, Brian Lenard, Katrina Hadley, and Micheal Vogel. Corey Toomey served as the storyboard artist for this short.

N/A

Now, Friendship through the ages is an utter delight for music fans to enjoy as many of different types of musics they use here is to represent not only the different genres of music, but the way it was ordered can even be shown to highlight of how music has aged throughout the ages, starting from the classic and majestic piano music that was the highlight of many old concerts of old and still is as a classical piece, to the folklore music where it has resonated throughout time and history and given birth to many legends from the wilds, to the rise of rock music led by the beatles as Rarity's Sgt. Peppers style outfit would attest to, to the metal genre and other hard rock music groups, to country music and to pop and electro musics of today. All of the music genres shown highlight and share the parallels of friendship that no matter how old time has gotten or how different folks and genres are, friendships will last throughout time. With that Sgt. Peppers reference and an awesome Bohemian Raphsody reference

paired up with a great music to boot, this is easily another fantastic short for the Equestria Girls short series.

Grade: Passing A+

5. Life is a Runway is my eleventh short in my review. It is written by Jayson Thiessen, Brian Lenard, and Michael Vogel. Katrina Hadley is the storyboard artist for this short.

N/A

Life is a Runway does a great job in both song and animation to show off Rarity's desire for her fashion outfits. There, as she dreams, we see that she wishes to give every lady she can find a fashionable outfit for folks to wear so they shine with their beauty and become the glamorous models they can be as we see them strutting across a runway like models typically do. While the short is rather simple, the music, the meaning for Rarity's own desire to help folks out with her fashion, and the many nice outfits shown in the short is a delight for many Rarity fans to watch and see.

Grade: Passing A

My rankings for each shorts here are:

1. My Past is not Today

2. Friendship through the ages

3. Life is a Runway

4. A perfect day for fun

5. Shake your Tail

Tell me what you guys thought please :)

Yes, I know I'm doing the movie instead of the Friendship games shorts I'll be doing instead, I'll rectify that one eventually. Now, by error I will do the Friendship Games review.

The Friendship Games is the third movie in the Equestria Girls movie series. The movie was directed by Ishi Rudell with Jayson Thiessen serving as a consultant. The writer for the movie is Josh Haber with the music score and songs done by William Anderson and Daniel Ingram respectively.

The forest clearing used in both Season 5's episode Bloom and Gloom and Friendship Games was previewed in a background image that was shown in an online image in November 2014. Ishi Rudell would tease the release of the third Equestria Girls film and to Jayson Thiessen on if the film would be about Friendship Games. Jayson would jokingly reply that it would be an extensive lecture on quantum physics and M theory for kids. In their announcement in acquiring the license to distribute Seasons 4 and 5 for the show, Australian home media distributor Beyond Home Entertainment stated via facebook they acquired the distributing rights to the 2nd and third equestria girls films. This would get officially confirmed by Hasbro at the 2015 New York Toy Fair. The motorcross animation was made by Ken Chu and Top Draw Animation. Rudell would state the song Dance Magic is unrelated to the movie. The concept designs for the film's ending credits were done by Katrina Hadley with Chris Lienonin and Jerremy Mah on the layouts. The film's storyboarders were Hadley, Roxana Beiklik, Jen Davreux, Hanna Lee, Mike Myhre, and Jocelan Thiessen.

While the Friendship games between Canterlot High and Crystal Prep is going on, Sunset Shimmer struggles to find what is causing the magic powers of the humane five to flare up without needing magic as a catalyst while she deals with a Twilight look alike who may be responsible for the disturbances.

Positives:

1. I enjoyed Sunset Shimmer's conflict in this movie and I especially love the progress she's undergoing throughout these movies. Perhaps the film series greatest asset is a reformed Sunset Shimmer. Starting from Rainbow Rocks with her excellent reformation, we continue that with Sunset Shimmer facing a challenge where she's essentially trying to figure out a problem with the magic disturbances happening to her humane friends where they now no longer need music to charge up into their powered up forms.

latest?cb=20151013162414

Now they no longer need an instrument to go furry.

Due in part to being tasked by Vice Principal Luna to go and try to keep their magic under control and how Twilgiht was currently busy trying to defeat the time travelling shenanigans of Starlight Glimmer to provide immediate aid to Sunset Shimmer, she would feel pressure in trying to resolve this on her own essentially.

latest?cb=20151013173610

Sunset misses Twilight

During the film, she would be competing alongside her friends at the Friendship Games, a series of competitive events where they would be facing off against their rivals, Crystal Prep, a hyper competitive school that seeks to win at everything and they're hell bent on it as we would hear that Canterlot High always loses against them.

latest?cb=20151013140510

To show their dominance.

During these events, Sunset and her gang would notice that whenever they go powered up time, they would without explanation feel winded out and lose their powered up form to something. They would eventually suspect it would EQG's Twilight, better known as Scitwi as she would be walking around with suspicion and Fluttershy would find that her magic was drained when she was Scitwi's presence.

latest?cb=20151014211955

However, due to the barrier of the competition and SciTwi dodging the gang at every turn, they could not tell her to stop or what is she doing even until at the motorcross event where Sunset Shimmer would chew Scitwi out for causing the mess that happened there only to immediately after regret it as it caused SciTwi to be upset and sad.

latest?cb=20151015162236

I on the other hand love this scene so much I'll do a separate positive for it.

There, Sunset Shimmer would feel even worse during the competition as she feels a failure for not only stopping the magics from being stolen, from appearing, explaining what's causing it, making SciTwi sad, and to make matters worse, with no response from Twilight, she feels even more helpless as she feels further inadequate for taking on this major task of resolving this crises going on in EQG land.

latest?cb=20151015175608

Good thing she has good friends to help her out when she needs it.

There, once SciTwi turns evil thanks to corrupting magic and her becoming Midnight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer would use the same pendent that stole the magic of her friends to reignite her friends magic to pour it onto her and give her own super powered form called Daydream Shimmer.

latest?cb=20151015215710

Nice dress and wings.

There, with a bit of help from Spike the dog, Daydream Shimmer would convince Midnight Sparkle to stop being evil and accept her hand of friendship.

latest?cb=20151015225254

After that, SciTwi would be so impressed by Sunset Shimmer and how much more friendly folks are at Canterlot High that she would choose to transfer over to that school away from Crystal Prep. After that, Sunset Shimmer would be getting that peace of mind about herself where she now is more confident about her leadership abilities and figuring stuff out without needing Twilight to help her out.

latest?cb=20151016014424

While Sunset Shimmer didn't received as big of a spotlight in this movie as she should've (originally she was going to till they edited that plot of her being homesick from Equestria out), for what she received she fantastic in it and you'll really enjoy Sunset Shimmer in it.

2. The humane five had their best characterization here in Friendship Games. Speaking of the humane six, the other girls were also great too. Not only were all of them characterized very well to where there was really no faults with them, and they were fantastic supports to both Sunset Shimmer and even SciTwi.

latest?cb=20151014063008

Affectionate consoling Rarity

latest?cb=20151015042857

latest?cb=20151014152216

Pinkie Pie bringing Sci Twi to help her out with the party preparation.

The humane five's magic would play a key role in this film where due to their growing affinity for it, they now no longer need to use instruments to power up to their powered up forms, but they do not know what is causing it and without Twilight to offer advice on what it maybe, this would play to where Sunset has to figure it out while the Humane five choose to help focus on the Friendship Games instead.

latest?cb=20151014161202

Love the dresses here too.

There, they would compete against the shadowbolts of Crystal Prep and they would show a big stark contrast compared to them where while they want to win, they don't mind if they lose as the more important thing for them is to have fun and enjoy the competition as we see with how humane five would go and congratulate and support Sunset Shimmer despite losing against SciTwi while she on the other hand recieved at best lukewarm appraise and no one on her team took the time to support her.

latest?cb=20150702005226

Poor SciTwi, even when she helps Crystal Prep win a competition, they offer no vote of confidence or appraisal while Sunset gets it despite losing.

Hell, Applejack offered the best support to SciTwi when shoe chose to help her direct competitor out when saw SciTwi was struggling to hit the targets by offering her advice and telling what she should do, said advice allowed her to hit the target and allow Crystal Prep to advance. Remember, she had a teammate that could've chosen to do the same but instead chose to berate her and offered no advice to her when she needed it badly and AJ was under no obligation to help her and in fact it was beneficial she not lifted a finger to help her out, yet AJ chose to help SciTwi out. It speaks volumes of how horrid of team members Crystal Prep is if their rivals are much better team mates to SciTwi than they are.

And that's not all, Rainbow Dash when in her Powered up form would go and not only help Sunset Shimmer out despite losing her place against Indigo Zap and let Sunset to continue racing in her stead when her bike got wrecked, but even helped Indigo Zap while she was fighting a plant monster meanwhile.

latest?cb=20151015141432

This also speaks volumes of how bad Crystal Prep students were if they didn't even showed human decency that Rainbow Dash easily had in spades.

Really, through the humane five, we see a stark difference for how different and much better Canterlot High is compared to Crystal Prep as despite competing in a competition, Canterlot High remained decent human beings who aren't so gung ho of winning a competition unlike Crystal Prep were. Yes, this will be a hint of how bad Crystal Prep was in this movie. Now to finish on the humane five, they had their best characterization in the movies here with how great of supports they were and they would learn and develop of how to better handle their growing powers to where it become a thing for the series for them. If you want more humane five goodness, this is the movie for it.

3. Canterlot High also showed of how much better behaved people they are compared to Crystal Prep. It's not just the humane six that were being good people at Canterlot High, the whole student body was as well where they (mistakenly believing it was Princess Twilgiht but understandable considering how they look alike besides glasses) showed more courtesy and affection towards the new student in SciTwi than her own school at Crystal Prep does.

latest?cb=20151013195037

How Crystal Prep students treat one of their own top students.

latest?cb=20151014030618

How Canterlot High treats one of their own top students. I'm sure SciTwi was shocked at how courteous they were towards her.

This would be a running theme throughout the whole movie, while Crystal Prep are horrid for mistreating Twilight so badly, Canterlot High treats her with much greater respect in comparison. Seriously how can anyone want to go to such a school if their top intellectual student gets treated like shit. I don't care if they win some competition that was meant to help bond the two schools over, Crystal Prep are assholes.

4. Spike the Dog is cute. On that note, we also see EQG's Spike where he's a cute little dog that doesn't speak as you'd expect.until he got hit with magic to speak out of convenience. Even before, Spike the dog was cute and especially a helpful support that would play a keyrole to beating Midnight Sparkle by reaching to SciTwi's psyche and causing her to be distracted, allowing the losing Daydream Shimmer to get the upperhand needed to beat her.

latest?cb=20151015225104

Cute doggo as always, both EQG versions.

More importantly, he was practically the only one at Crystal Prep besides Dean Cadance that offered any sort of help and advice to her, but Spike was by far the best as he comforted her at whatever turn he was in.

5. I believe the ost in Friendship Games is actually underrated. Despite the songs being put into a lower position compared to the past two movies, especially Rainbow Rocks, I actually liked the songs in this film too. Most especially with What more is out there and Unleash the Magic, which that latter is one of the series's best villain songs.

latest?cb=20151015184958

Here they actually used their dickishness to good use here.

6. I really appreciated that SciTwi would choose to go to Canterlot High after seeing how much more friendly they are compared to Crystal Prep as she wants to learn more on friendship. In a role reversal of parallel dimensions, it would be SciTwi that would choose to go to Canterlot High so she can learn under the tutelage of Sunset Shimmer and the humane five as friends. After what you saw in Crystal Prep, yea this is a good choice for her to get away from that abusive place.

latest?cb=20151016014848

Friends are good to have.

7. I loved seeing Sunset Shimmer chew SciTwi out for her mistake. Despite what the movie may say, I really enjoyed seeing Sunset Shimmer chew SciTwi out when Sunset saw she was being irresponsible handling the magic pendent. Considering it was by SciTwi that caused a plant monster to appear and nearly had several students, including Sunset herself and the others killed. While SciTwi would try to explain she wants to learn, Sunset Shimmer doesn't let it by as she points out how irresponsible she was being and how her curiosity is going to get folks killed. This would of course soon after cause Sunset Shimmer to regret it after and make her feel bad, but honestly SciTwi deserved it.

latest?cb=20151015162137

You go Sunset Shimmer, verbally chew her ass out!

8. I also loved Princess Twilight Sparkle's cameo appearance in the epilogue. To show that Twilight didn't forget Sunset Shimmer and was too busy handling time travelling shenanigans from Starlight Glimmer from Season 5's finale, she would appear at the end to try to help Sunset Shimmer out only to find not only the crises was resolved without her but also that she got to meet her EQG counterpart too.

latest?cb=20151016020824

Well, this is strange meeting your AU counterpart.

Funny too.

Negatives:

1. I hated Crystal Prep Academy in Friendship Games. Now as you can tell from above, I loathed Crystal Prep Academy here for how atrocious their behavior was, especially their principal who deserves her own slot. The whole student body at Crystal Prep Academy was so unpleasant as they only cared about their own accomplishments and no one else, they would berate Canterlot High for losing against them despite the purpose of the games being about the two schools bonding, and they would bully SciTwi for no reason other than cause she's meek and never helped her out all during the competition despite being their top student academically that has certainly helped them win competitions. They just have no sense of care for each other or even unity as they pretty much believe that it's every person for themselves in it.Their mistreatment for Twilight was so bad that you will actually be pleased she is leaving them for Canterlot High. They do not deserve such a brilliant student for their horrid behavior in the movie.

latest?cb=20151016001206

To be fair to them, from what we saw at the party when they were actually enjoying hanging out with Canterlot High until Principal Cinch told them to stop and how they did came to help several Canterlot High Students at the climax and as we see they're going against Cinch for what she has done, this is probably more on Cinch being a horrific human being than they themselves really. Still not a good reprieve for their behavior.

2. Despite the hype the Shadowbolts had around them during the movie's promos, they actually really didn't do much and were supplanted by Principal Cinch as the main villains in it. Remember at how much hype the movie was building up to the Shadow Bolts to oppose the humane five with their own rivals like Sugar Sweet for Fluttershy, Sunny Flare for Rarity, not Lightning Dust  Indigo Zap for Rainbow Dash, Lemon Zest for Pinkie Pie, and Sugar Coat for Applejack to show off their elements of harmony disharmony versions? Yea in the movie, other than being assholes to SciTwi and being one note rivals to oppose the humane five that they really didn't even get real personality or so to make us like them, they were largely relegated to the Friendship Games competition as opponent stand ins while it was Cinch that was the movie's real villain. While not a major negative, it still hurts seeing that all that hype proved to be a bait and switch at the end.

latest?cb=20151014150302

This is pretty much the closest we get to them standing off as rivals in it.

3. The Motorcross event makes no sense. The one event that I have issues with is the fact they included motorcrossing in as an event for the Friendship Games despite alot of the competitors probably don't even have a license for driving, let alone motorcrossing competitively and even if they did, considering how they had the plant monster putting students lives in danger, I'm amazed that Cinch was that willing to continue the competition cause she refuses to tie with Canterlot High. Course it's amazing they continued after but considering how hell bent Cinch is and how they probably don't want to explain to the school board (who mind you approved of the motorcrossing) of a plant monster that they themselves only saw and probably don't want to expose Equestrian magic for the world to see, yea they had little choice on the matter.

latest?cb=20151015133738

FRIENDSHIP GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!

4. Principal Cinch is perhaps an even worse villain than Sunset Shimmer from EQG1. That's right, Principal Cinch is now my new worse villain for the series. The reason for that while Sunset Shimmer at least became a much better reformed heroine and does at least have an interesting tie to Twilight in EQG1 for being a former student of Celestia, here Cinch is just an unabashedly greedy asshole to the point of being a malicious monster. Not only was it indicated in the movie that she is responsible for Crystal Prep Academy's student body for behaving as such since she gives so much care to reputation and is jealousy competitive as fuck for it, but she has no qualms pulling unethical moves like black mailing SciTwilight to compete or she'll revoke her application to a prestigious school SciTwi wants to go to so badly and hangs that threat over her head repeatedly throughout the film.

latest?cb=20151013222753

Oh and if you want to be even more irate, Shining Armor, Sci Twi's own brother, and Dean Cadance pretty much approved of what Cinch is doing to Twilight since they know what she's doing and raised no issue with her about it just to get her to compete in Friendship Games. Damn her life sucks so hard if she has these people supporting her.

Cinch has no other character than to be an asshole turned up to eleven and she's so arrogant about her school that she openly mocks them in front Canterlot High's Principal and the student body and how Crystal Prep Academy is going to crush them again.

latest?cb=20151014160758

Yes, I'm so brazenly arrogant that I have no fear speaking badly about your school in front of everybody.

To make matters worse, when Principal Celestia wanted to call off the Friendship Games due to the plant monster attacking and saying it should end in a draw, Cinch pretty much told her to fuck off with that as she's not going to allow it and was ready to accuse her school of cheating in order to embellish her threat even more as she will not allow her school to tie with Canterlot High. To show off of how hypocritical she is, she has no problems cheating herself if it was done onto her as she forces SciTwi to go and use the magic she harnessed to help her school win the competition which SciTwi does and turns into Midnight Sparkle. To make you hate her even more, she fucking called Midnight Sparkle a monster despite it was her own hand that caused this mess to happen.

latest?cb=20151015214607

So who the real monster is here?

Course, she got her comeuppance when she not only got her ass chewed out by everyone, including her own students, but it was heavily implied that she was heavily censured to where it seems Dean Cadance has her on a tight leash at the very least as she had to give in SciTwi's demands for a transfer.

latest?cb=20151016002127

I hope I don't see again other than prison.

If you wanted someone that is even worse than Sunset Shimmer as a villain, Friendship Games has that with Principal Cinch's one note and over the top arrogant and bully behavior.

5. SciTwilight was an irresponsible idiot handling the magic pendent and stealing magic recklessly. Now as for SciTwilight herself, I'm not a big fan of her character in it. For the most part, her characterization can stem to 'Fluttershy if she liked science but not as shy'. What actually makes her character more interesting is how much sympathy you can garner for how horrid her life at Crystal Prep is. However, she's annoying for me in the Friendship Games movie due to how stupid she was searching for magic. While I can understand why she would be curious for magic, her behavior was so idiotic and reckless that Sunset Shimmer deserved to chew her out for it at one point. The reasoning for this is that she was able to see magic was coming from one classroom where students were in it so instead of asking questions if they know about it, she chose to take the magic and leave. When she saw how Fluttershy got her magic drained directly from her, Fluttershy looked winded (aka hurt), caused dimensional rifts to open up (not the first time she saw it even) that had animals and strange beings appearing, and Spike the dog could speak in that scene, instead of asking questions to Fluttershy about it and if she could help her to understand that phenomena more, she chose to run away.

latest?cb=20151014212154

Yes, instead of helping the girl who was being nice to me get back up and ask her questions for what just happened as I saw the magic being drained from her, I'm going to run away instead!

What's even worse that instead of choosing to do any of that or even stop using the pendent since it was clearly getting worse, she chose to keep it instead of putting somewhere away from Canterlot High which she knows it's where the magic source is coming from. This would come to head when she would drain Applejack's magic and would cause the plant monsters to attack and nearly kill folks at the motorcross event. When you consider all of the stupidity SciTwi was displaying throughout this film, yea you can easily see why she deserved to get her ass chewed out by Sunset Shimmer.

latest?cb=20151015161926

I just want to learn. Then learn to be responsible and careful with things you don't understand you idiot.

Had she chosen the options I mentioned above, she would've been able to get what she wanted (understanding the phenomena from Canterlot High) from friendly folks, helped Sunset Shimmer out figuring out her problem with magic going haywire as SciTwi was responsible for it, but it would've resolved the film before it got to it's intended climax too.

Conclusion: Friendship Games is in my opinion not as good as Rainbow Rocks but is a better film than the first one. My reasoning for that is due to how great the humane six were throughout the movie with the humane five having their best characterization in the movie series, how great Sunset Shimmer was in taking her step to being more sure of herself and leading the gang in EQG, how good Canterlot High is itself, the underrated ost, the cute Dog Spike, Sunset Shimmer chewing out SciTwi was a delight to see, her transferring over to Canterlot High is a plus for the series, and I did loved the cameo with Princess Twilight Sparkle at the end. However, the film does get marred by the one note characterizations of the Shadowbolts that proved to be a bust despite the hype machine, Cinch's horrid character that is easily one of the series's worst villains, SciTwi's idiocy that extended the plot longer than it should've been, the nonsensical motorcross scene, and how horrid Crystal Prep Academy was in behavior. Still, compared to the other films, it's the 2nd best one of the three, but much weaker than the series best in Rainbow Rocks.

Score: 7.5/10

Grade: C

For me, Friendship games is a movie that shows that a decent finale can save an overall mixed movie.

While i think the overall movie was not that amazing, anything post Motorcross race was just really great and had a nice build up from the movie itself, the dialogue between Sunset and Sci-Twi was really good because Sunset really had a point, but totally snapping at people, who in the greater picture had no bad intentions, doesn't help either.

And i just loved the design of Daydream Shimmer / Mightnight Sparkle, really amazing, also showing an "evil Twilight" was really cool.

Drawing some comparison to the MLP movie, it's also pretty good that they still managed to put in a few scenes that gave all the main characters some sort of plot relevance other than being part of the main group, something that MLP movie didn't exactly accomplish.

Regarding the Shadowbolts, i liked the concept of an "Anti Mane 6", sadly they only really delivered on Sugarcoat / Sour Sweet there, though Sugarcoat's blunt honesty was rather entertaining, really cool side character for the future.

The idea of some sort of Anti Hero group that have a dark twist on the Elements should really be picked up by the main show in my opinion.

As for Sci-Twi, i think the reason why she seemed so reckless with the magic is because she really wanted to understand how it works and was willing to overlook some "safety concerns", during unleash the magic her last sentence was "but the magic is what i really want to see", as Midnight Sparkle she just went so far to rip the world apart just to learn more about magic, it strongly hints that she had a real desire to understand magic, i think the movie should've shown this a bit better, perhaps that Sci-Twi simply acknowledges the risk the Pendant imposes but continues to wear it "For Science".

I think Cinch wasn't that terrible, i got nonsensical when magic got involved because that should've been a game changer for someone that was never in touch with magic, but for being the first actual human villain she was okay, extremely ambitious and willing to do some real bad shit to get it, but yeah, it just got silly once she just brushed off the Plant stuff and thought she could actually use the magic to win the Friendship games. I think another issue was the one sided interaction, she basically just interacted with Sci-Twi.

And i agree that the Motorcross race was a totally weird scene, it was just taking it too far in my opinion.

As for the soundtrack, as mentioned above, in my opinion all EqG movies have really great music but the scrapped version of "What's more out there" just takes cake, such a damn shame that this version was cut.

Also,  you should've perhaps covered the scrapped scenes,  the Sunset being homesick subplot actually being in the movie would've been awesome.

I think Friendship games overall bit more off than it could chew, betwen further charactising Sunset & Mane 5, establishing Sci-Twi there wasn't much left  for Cinch and Shadowbolts, while the ones they focused on were not bad and reached good conclusions, some subplots started rather halfassed and thereby never came to a decent conclusion.

There's a fan artist on DeviantArt called MustLoveFrogs, and she's done some amazing stuff with the Shadowbolts. I swear, she put more thought into them with one piece of fanart than the people behind this movie!

I personally don't have any real issues with the series as a whole. It can be a pretty fun time and its an intriguing concept, in my opinion. I'm interested to see how much further they'll take it.

But these tracks are hands down the best parts of the entire series and I'm willing to fistfight any man/woman/other that says otherwise... :gleepony:

I do agree the climax and ending were great parts in the movie despite how annoying the others were for whatever reason. I also agree the designs for Daydream shimmer and Midnight Sparkle were good too.

I do agree a bit on the movies comparison as I did felt that a couple of them sort of got shafted in terms of involvement in the MLP movie while FG did a better job in that regard at least.

As a dancing short would show, the Shadowbolts could be good anti hero type type characters to oppose the humane seven or so. They just need more development and time as they do have potential, they just need to be realized or so, Johnny P.

For Sci Twilight, even if she was willing to do it for science as they said she would, she was not being careful about it and her recklessness and fear not only denied her better opportunities to study magic from folks who are affected by said magic, but it nearly costed students her lives despite seeing how increasingly dangerous it was getting with rifts opening up and seeing a student get tired out after draining her magic. Her behavior essentially is what caused the whole thing to get as bad as it did.

Cinch for me was terrible mainly for how utterly one sided as a villain she was where she held no nuance or subtlety to her character or even anything to show that she herself doesn't view herself as anything but an over-competitive idiot willing to do anything to get what she wanted. She's just bad for the sake of being bad and while it's not outright a terrible thing, I would've appreciated something more to her character than someone who is willing to be bad for the sake of it.

Yea, the motorcross event makes no sense other than they wanted to make use of it here in the movie. Could be argued as the movie's worst scene.

Like the ost too.

I heard about that cut out music and scenes and especially the subplot that was cut out due to executive meddling as Hasbro wanted a Twilight Sparkle to be the star character in any FIM media which put Sunset Shimmer's role in the movie in an awkward co role as originally she was supposed to be the definite main character while Sci Twi not only wouldn't have such a large role in it as she did in the final version, but she also was meant to be a one off character too and not join the group. It's a shame they edited out that homesick subplot for Sunset Shimmer as that's honestly something I feel Sunset Shimmer should be having now she's on better terms with Equestria. You're also right in the movie length proved problematic as I do agree if the film had more time that it would've turned out much more developed imo.

I don't either as while I won't say they're as strong as FIM, but that's more due to having more time and material to work with, but EQG is a fine spinoff series that works well. I do like it's getting a proper show series as well, even if it's shorts.

The OST is pretty good I'll admit. Thx for stopping by, Vinny Schway.

As promised, I'm going to do the Friendship Games shorts to make up for the fact that I missed out on doing these. So here in this review, I will talk about the five Friendship game shorts that were released to build up hype and development for the movie in The Science of Magic, Pinkie Spy, All's fair in love and Friendship Games, Photo Finished, and A banner day. I will talk about each short's information and how good they were and so on and then grade out which of these shorts was the best and worst one of the bunch imo.

1. The Science of Magic. It's the first animated short released as a tie in for the Friendship Games movie. It was written by Natasha Levinger. It would be first published on the My Little Pony Facebook page on August 1, 2015 and the first to be published by the Hasbro Sutdios Shorts Youtube channel on August 3, 2015.

Sunset Shimmer tries to figure out at what's causing the humane five's magic to flare up.

This is a fun little short that shows off Shimmer's science side and even gives off a bit of her character in contrast to Twilight as Sunset Shimmer admits that she prefers a more hands on approach to finding answers than to research in books.

latest?cb=20151101183136

Which does mean she'll more likely get hurt.

The entertainment here relies on how Shimmer would take whatever measure necessary to figure out how their magic works only for to be blasted back by whatever magic feedback happens. Humorously, this would end with Sunset Shimmer trying to hide behind a glass window shield for protection but that would fail too.

latest?cb=20151101180507

Ultimately, she would not be able to find anything that's causing it.

While this short doesn't exactly give a hint or so for how the magic is formed, but considering the plot of the movie, this was necessary and it would be funnier to see Shimmer failing to figure out and declare she has no idea to the humane five. This is a very good short that would certainly entertain many folks for the humor and Shimmer's tiny development too.

Passing Grade: B+

2. Pinkie Spy is the second animated short for the Friendship Games. It is written by Natasha Levinger. This is the second one to be published on the MLP facebook page and on Hasbro Studios youtube page. It's also one of several that was leaked in European Spanish by the Equestria Girls youtube channel on August 6, 2015, two days before it's official release.

Rainbow Dash encounters difficulties with Pinkie Pie as they try to spy on Crystal Prep Academy for the upcoming Friendship Games.

Here in this short, this one is pretty much a straight up comedy compared to the last short as it pretty much focuses on Pinkie Pie's antics that weren't stealthy much to Rainbow Dash's chagrin and how annoying she's being to her.

latest?cb=20151101180541

Dash smells like vanilla too. Pinkiedash shippers rejoice.

Which of course Dash is the one that gets busted by screaming out loud. Overall, this is a fun and simple short that shows off Pinkie Pie's spy antics along with a bit Pinkiedash shipping tease too.

Passing Grade: B

3. All's fair in love and friendship games is the third Friendship Game shorts to tie into Friendship is Magic. The storyboard artist for it was Jim Miller. This short is also one of several shorts that was leaked early in European Spanish on August 6, 2015.

Lyra and Sweetie Drops have a dispute between each other as both wish to compete in the Friendship games and with limited spots in, they aren't going to allow even each other to stand in their way.

This is a hilarious and over the top short where we see many animations done to show off the zany antics of Lyra and Sweetie Drops as they do whatever it takes to get into it.

latest?cb=20151101175558

FIGHT!

latest?cb=20151101183539

Angry sculpture

latest?cb=20151101175307

What scene from a certain anime between two sisters does this remind you of?

This is quite possible the most hilarious short of the bunch in the Friendship games series. Also, this carries important development for the movie as it does explain how Lyra and Sweetie Drops get on the team in movie for Canterlot High. This is quite possibly the best short of the bunch for Friendship Games imo.

latest?cb=20151101175310

"Best Friends"

Passing Grade: A

4. Photo Finished is the fourth Friendship Games short released. The writers are Ishi Rudell and Jayson Thiessen. This was also part of the shorts that was released early in European Spanish on the Equestria Girls channel.

Vice Principal Luna tasks Photo Finish to take good pictures for the Canterlot High yearbook.

While the plot is relatively simple, it does show off some zany humor with Photo Finish as her pushy but earnest determination to get the best photos for the CHS yearbook is evident here as she takes photos in the most over the top angles while she has the students and teachers perform or stand still for her photos.

latest?cb=20151101180000

This Photo finish seems more outlandish compared to the pony one.

However, you can see in her results that they hold a purpose as she does get some great photos for the CHS yearbook as promised.

latest?cb=20151101175256

latest?cb=20151101175255

While it held little value to the movie, this is a good characterization for Photo finish as it shows that while she's over the top and pushy, there's a method to her madness as a photographer and it's definitely working.

Passing Grade: B

5. A banner day is the fifth EQG short to tie into the Friendship games movie. The storyboard artist is by Timothy Packford. This is also the other short that leaked early by the EQG youtube channel which was in european spanish as well on August 6th, 2015.

Flash Sentry, Micro Chip, and Sandalwood are tasked by Vice Principal Luna to create a banner for CHS for the Friendship Games for which all three have conflicting ideas how to do it.

This short would help explain how CHS would get their flag to represent for CHS at the Friendship games, and the process was far less orderly than you would think.

latest?cb=20151101175037

Which would involve all of these guys arguing which one is better.

Flash would want to input his music, Micro Chip with DNA, and Sandalwood with his hippie stuff as all three want to put their ideas on the flag, but do not like how all three are interfering and causing issues for each other. However through dumb luck, they managed to create a flag that Vice Principal Luna liked, but would demand five more much to their chagrin at the end.

latest?cb=20151101174857

This is going to be a pain to copy that onto five more.

It's a good short that helps to show off the EQG guys from CHS with how they would work and get the flag and be able to bond over it and how the flag came to be, course it's funny to see them arguing and anguishing at having to repeat the same flag again they did purely on rage induced accident.

Passing Grade: B

Thus if I were to rank each short, it would be:

1. All's Fair in Love and Friendship Games

2. The Science of Magic

3. Photo Finished

4. Pinkie Spy

5. A Banner Day

Tell me what you guys think about this review please.

Solid points. Here's hoping this series will be able to produce the same quality of bangers that the films did.

And thank you. Also, from the time I posted that, I finally learned how to properly embed YouTube videos. I really did just overcomplicated the process for myself.

As usual, I barely remember the EQG shorts except for one, "My Past is Not Today" in this case. Though I can't say that I remember it because I liked it. If I had to describe it in a few words: pointless and redundant.

One point of the song is that she "regrets" her past sins, which she already showed in Rainbow Rocks. Another is that friendship showed her the better path, which the first two Equestria Girls film did (but not very well since she changed without a transition). So I don't know what this added to her or her "journey", and I don't know what this did for Sunset supporters even after I read your points.

I also laughed out loud when she had that phoenix form at the end, but it was out of derision. The movie itself already showed her trying to be a better person, so that phoenix business in addition to the song itself was just hammering things in. I don't know if the creators were trying too hard to convince disbelievers that Sunset has changed for the better, and I don't know how these few minutes was supposed to help if the Rainbow Rocks didn't already work for them.

I even looked up the lyrics, and I can't find anything meaningful. She first sings about power corrupting her, which the first movie already did, and this doesn't really say anything about her as a person. The next part is about the effects of friendship on her, which doesn't need any comments. When she sang about the phoenix stuff, she also sang about another side of her, and every character in any work of fiction already has different sides to them if time and effort are spent well to show them, so this is pointless. If there's something about "rebirth", also pointless considering what this song follows. Then there's stuff about the past not defining her, which doesn't make a lot of sense because all of her past choices and actions led to her current position, so one can't exactly say that her past is unimportant. There is the line which is singing the title, and that's true, but it still makes no sense for her past to be dismissed (which the song seems to do) for the reasons I said. And the rest is repetition in some form, which songs tend to do as one way to be memorable, so whatever.

If the song was already worked into the movie, I wouldn't have as much of a problem. But this is a separate and standalone thing. If a random non-EQG fan found this and eventually became a fan, I guess that's fine. But again, I don't know what this does for them if they revisit it other than more Sunset if they happen to really like her.

I can't believe I went on this long. Maybe I should revisit the other shorts because I remember enjoying those to some degree.

Mhm, another one of those 'friends' pairs that is named as such to avoid pissing off their eastern European and Chinese consumers.

What it did was that it essentially affirmed that she's going to change to something new as you can see with her new attire and she goes and tears down the old photos showing how much of a monster she was before. There she vows she won't let the past control her and with such a commitment, we see her being able to fly with magic to indicate a clue for the next film. I don't see an issue of them showing off of how Sunset Shimmer has changed as it does show off her new outfit and her new angel form she's going to have for the next film. It's not really a problem if they repeat stuff from the past film to show off those things I mentioned and her commitment to that reformation. As for the song itself, it's more of her saying she won't let the past control her and more importantly it provides a nice song to symbolize Sunset's turn of reformation or so. It may have been shown from the previous film or so, but doing it in a short is not a problem for me so long as they handle it very well and we get to see Sunset's new outfit and form in it so there's reason for it to exist.

Legend of Everfree is the 4th equestria girl film in the series. It was directed by Ishi Rudell and Katrina Hadley served as assistant. The music was done by William Anderson who did the score and Daniel Ingram who did the songs. The movie was written by Kristine Songco and Joanna Lewis.

Legend of Everfree was first mentioned at a Hasbro 2016 Entertainment Plan presentation in August 2015, including an image of new character Gloriosa Daisy. Ishi Rudell would further tease on the film's production when he was asked if they were going to get more EQG media of any king for which he would reply 'Yup, there's a pretty good chance..." Hasbro Studios president Stephen Davis would confirm that a 4th EQG film was indeed in development at the MIP Junior 2015 keynote presentation. The concept of the film would be first hinted at the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair Nurnberg. On June 14, 2016, Paulina Raczylo Facebook Page would post this: "Hej Kochani! Stęskniliście się za Sunset Shimmer?:)" "Śpieszę z informacją, że niebawem w 4 części Equestrii znów będzie Wam towarzyszyć:)" "takie oto wieści ze studia, ja się cieszę bardzo bardzo:D" It included an earlier screenshot of the Legend of Everfree film at SDI Media Polska, Sun Studio on June 16, 2016 though it would become unavailable. Production on the film would start while Friendship Games itself was being finished and would last for a 'little over a year and a half'. The Film was officially completed on August 18, 2016. According to Katrina Hadley, there may have been a 'small scene with Lyra Heartstrings and Sweetie Drops cut from the animatic.' Ishi Rudell would credit his co director and art director Jeremy Tin for designing the Crystal Gala dresses during Legend you were meant to be but adds 'it was a team effort'. The film was story boarded by Jason Armstrong, Jeff Bittle, Jennifer Davreux, Gloria Jenkins, and Dalton Grant. Revisionists were Tori Grant, Colleen Lofstrom, Selena Marchetti, and Desirae Salmark. According to the film's DVD/Blu Ray audio commentary:

  • The Midnight Sparkle dream background, Camp Everfree tent interiors, day/night concepts, and Fluttershy's owls were designed by Madison Tuff.
  • The background gag of Rainbow Dash doing situps was specifically added by Lofstrom.
  • The scene of Twilight Sparkle and Timber Spruce interacting in the woods was storyboarded by Dalton Grant.
  • The camp mess hall was designed by Krista Huot.
  • The scene of Twilight and Sunset Shimmer in the woods at night was storyboarded by Bittle.
  • The Crystal Cave was conceptually designed by Tuff, with colors by Huot and Caitie O'Rourke.
  • The scene of Twilight, Sunset, and Gloriosa Daisy in the cave was storyboarded by Jenkins.

The students at Canterlot High, including new student Twilight Sparkle head out to a summer camp at Camp Everfree to relax and spend some time, but guarded secrets of wrong doing would plague the students fun at camp.

Positives:

1.Loved that the movie would take the characters out of the city and school setting and would put them in a much more interesting summer camp. This is something I enjoyed seeing as I wasn't exactly a fan of the school setting so seeing the film is choosing to move the students to head off for a summer camp to spend the summer with is more fun for me to enjoy. Not only is this setting much more interesting and different compared to what you're used to seeing in the past EQG media, but it looks better too.

Finally, someplace that is not from the school.

2. I enjoyed the character development they gave to Principal Celestia and Luna here in this film. Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna would receive some actual character development here where we would see these two are very passionate and love the time they spent their youth at Camp Everfree that years later, they would host fundraisers at Canterlot High where they would try to bring as many students as they could to come to Camp Everfree to try to have the same fond memories they have for the camp.

latest?cb=20161028010231

Including Luna remarking at how stupid creating a camp gift with a sundial that doesn't work at night was. Some actual interaction between the two outside of their principal duties!

This was easily their best role in EQG series.

3. I loved Science Twilight Sparkle's inner conflict with her inner demon Midnight Sparkle and her fear for using magic is justifiable. The new addition to the gang, Science Twilight Sparkle, whom since we've heard in the film that Princess Twilight Sparkle has got princess duties to imply 'she's not coming back unless it's for a special', we can probably call her Twilight Sparkle. Here in this film, she would be plagued by nightmares of her inner demon, Midnight Sparkle where it would make it clear that she will have control over her and use it's power for evil deeds.

File:Midnight Sparkle appears behind Twilight EG4.png

Twilight's plight in this film that she's so fearful of Midnight Sparkle returning that she tries her best to keep her magic under wraps away from scrutiny, but she would even try to leave at one point from the camp as she wanted to protect her friends from danger.

latest?cb=20161029225553

There, Sunset Shimmer would play a very pivotal supporting role to Twilight Sparkle here where she would tell her to not fear her magic ability so much and that she's there to help her out. This would help out greatly for both characters as it would show off Sunset Shimmer's growing mentor role for the girls while Twilight Sparkle is being eased into the gang and tries to find her place and use of her powers in a safe way. This would come to head when they needed her to use her magic but she would refuse to use the full of it due to Midnight Sparkle would come to take control over her, which turned out to be a legit threat as she does do as such in a battle of mental minds. However, thanks to her friends providing her confidence to resist and take control of her powers, she would use it to save the day and defeat Gaia Everfree.

latest?cb=20161031193550

Thanks to the events of this movie, not only would Twilight Sparkle would have the confidence to use her magic in the film, prove her role warranted in the gang, but also even having a better romance too.

4. Not only is Timber Spruce a pretty cool guy to like, but his romance with Sci Twilight Sparkle is done much better than Flash Sentry with princess Twilight Sparkle. We also have Sci Twilight Sparkle have a squeeze in one of the head camp folks at Camp Everfree in Timber Spruce. Despite the fear of a romance relationship in the series, especially after the bland and pointless one with Flash Sentry and Princess Twilight Sparkle, Sci Twilight Sparkle's romance with Timber Spruce is not only done better as they had actual chemistry between each other, but Timber Spruce himself proves to be a pretty cool guy too.

latest?cb=20161028014900

Here, Spruce shows off his knowledge with gemstones much to the brainy Twilight Sparkle's delight.

He's not only very flirty towards Twilight Sparkle to where he actually comes off charming and smooth unlike the much more awkward Flash Sentry, but he's also a pretty cool guy outside of it where we see we not only he has a bit of a brotherly and sisterly antagonism relationship going on, but he also cares about her as he tries his best to save her from power mad clutches of Equestrian magic that turns her into Gaia of Everfree.

latest?cb=20161031173519

He maybe in way over his head, but damn it is he going to try to save his sister.

Essentially, think Timber Spruce as Flash Sentry done right and more interesting and you'll see why he's better. Speaking of which...

5. Flash Sentry also had his best outing in this movie too.  Recognizing that Princess Twilight Sparkle isn't coming back, DHX threw Flash Sentry a bone where he not only laments that Sci Twilight Sparkle isn't interested in him, but also that Princess Twilight Sparkle isn't coming back. A noted thing here is that he would display notably much better chemistry between himself and Sunset Shimmer where the two actually spoke on good terms, but both would even help each other out where Sunset tells him that's for the best to let Princess Twilight go and move on, which he does, and in turn Flash would compliment Sunset for being a good friend and how far she has gone to becoming a better person.

latest?cb=20161030191312

This scene showed more chemistry between these two than Flash and Twilight ever did.

6. Sunset Shimmer continues to be great in the EQG series. Sunset Shimmer post reformation continues her great character path where in the 4th EQG film, she's now developing into an awesome mentor role for her friends where she would not only coach and tell Twilight to feel more confident in herself as she tries to tell her to not be afraid of the dark magic and embrace the magic she has in her.

latest?cb=20161030034439

Sunset is now becoming the teacher here.

But she would also share this lesson to her other friends when they would try to restrict their powers in fear of losing control over it to where she would point out that they should be responsible in handling it, but at the same time not be afraid to use it to help others out through song.

latest?cb=20161030171234

Seems Sunset Shimmer is leading a team of super heroines at this point.

It's really great to see Sunset Shimmer becoming a teacher for the gang where she's using her lessons she's learned from her past mistakes to help them out to handle their powers and embrace it so they can be the ones to help save the day from trouble. This is a delightful development on her character and one that only makes me recognize of how good of a choice it was to reform her.

7. I loved the movie's take on Superheroes. Legend of Everfree did something really good which was to show how the characters are developing their super powers without needing to use music to turn to furries. Unlike in the past where it usually occurs on accident, their magic is now becoming a more permanent and active addition to it. There, the gang has issues with it where they would actually purposefully restrict themselves since they were uncontrolled and causing damage as a result.

latest?cb=20161030151039

In this scene, RD is walking really slow cause she would otherwise run out of the forest, AJ is hammering weakly in fear of smashing the docks, Pinkie Pie is worried causing something to explode, and Flutters is worried of unintentionally summoning animals, and Rarity is making a dress to avoid summoning a shield.

Now this was just on humane group, let alone what Sci Twilight Sparkle had to suffer throughout the whole movie with her fear of losing to Midnight Sparkle if she uses too much of her powers to highlight how powers are not only dangerous, but can cause inadvertent damage to someone if they don't hold back. Think of Superman's cardboard speech to describe their situation with their powers. This is actually a surprisingly mature take on the whole superheroes with powers to show of how rather dangerous they can be to folks if they don't restrict themselves or even use them at all as one careless move can cause untolds of damage or destruction. Still, Sunset Shimmer, who herself would have her own power in empathy would point out to her friends that they shouldn't be afraid to withhold their powers and instead embrace it to help others in need and not to deny something that fate has given them as such.

latest?cb=20161030172517

Also, thanks to the ending, their powers can now be harnessed from Equestrian gems that would allow the humans to be able to use their magic anytime at their leisure so long as they're wearing gems. This would prove to be a good move for the series if they want to call on them to use super powers right away.

latest?cb=20161031213113

If you wanted the EQG's to be superheroes in some form, well here's their official attires now.

8. We get to see the statue at Canterlot High leak at the end to explain the magic disturbances happening in EQG land. To explain where the magic came from to the audience, we see that from the last movie's damage to the statue, the statue's remains are leaking equestrian magic into the land to where it would be giving the gems in the cave for the humane group to collect and use, but also it would help lead to many story elements as Equestrian magic continues to leak and corrupts those unworthy to use it in the upcoming series.

latest?cb=20161101002144

In other words, this is all Twilight's fault.

9. The humor in this movie is good. Now I will make mention of how much I was pleased with the humor as Pinkie Pie's humor is on point, and I do like more dryer stuff like AJ disliking the fashion stuff but eventually comes to like it and wants to keep it despite her earlier protests against Rarity's fashion line.

There were other humorous moments in this movie too if you want look into it further.

10. I enjoyed the ending song Legend you were meant to be. In my personal opinion, the songs in Legend of Everfree were pretty weak, but I will say that I did enjoyed the last song, Legend you were meant to be as it felt more memorable for my personal tastes compared to the other ones.

latest?cb=20161031223101

Them rocking out at the end.

Negatives:

1. Rarity's character was flanderized here where she focused way too much on her love for fashion. Now make note, flanderization =/= ooc. Instead, it's exaggerating a character's trait higher than it should be for this character. Here, Rarity's love for fashion seemed to have been taken up a higher notch than it should as Rarity's character in Legend of Everfree can be best described as 'I want this fashion show to go up and running cause I love fashion and want to shot it off at Camp Everfree.' Her character's dialogue in this movie owes a good 50% at least to her wanting to get this fashion show up and running despite how her friends were focus on other tasks and were looking at her with annoyance at her insistence for the fashion show and other related speech to clothing. While this isn't a terrible thing to effect the movie, it does make Rarity the most annoying character out of the lot in this film.

latest?cb=20161030173052

Don't mind me, I'm just finishing this stitch here.

2. The songs were on the weak side in Legend of Everfree. I will say is that I'm not impressed with the ost in Legend of Everfree. Save for The legend you were meant to be, the other songs in the film were rather boring or by the numbers to what they were supposed to be so if you wanted some ost goodness, Legend of Everfree will probably disappoint you the most out of these movies imo.

3. I was unimpressed with Gloriosa Daisy here. The least impressive thing in this film was Gloriosa Dasiy the one in charge of Camp Everfree. There, her character was rather unimpressive to where I viewed her as some cheerleader hiding beneath dark secrets that we get to see soon, but her motivation for turning bad was weak too. For the most part, she got upset she was going to lose the camp due to poor financial management as Filthy Rich was threatening to turn her camp into a spa to make money for him.

latest?cb=20161030213252

Instead of making me hate Filthy Rich, I point to how rather fair he was being to Gloriosa for not only giving her an extension, but even honoring the agreement when she had the money despite his own wish to create a spa in her lands.

So instead of trying to get herself out of a hole by trying to raise a fundraiser to help pay the bills or be more fiscally responsible, Gloriosa chose instead to cry about it that this will be last summer camp for Camp Everfree until she stumbled upon some magic rock to where she starts to get the asinine idea to use it to seal Camp Everfree from taken over by Filthy Rich.

latest?cb=20161030213704

What could possibly go wrong.

There, she would pretty much practice using the magic till she would get confident enough to make her move to ensure the camp doesn't get taken over despite her brother Timber Spruce's protest to stop using it. This would turn bad of course when Gloriosa would get corrupted by Equestrian magic and become a forest demon from it to which would require our heroines to stop and beat her.

latest?cb=20161031054449

Here she's showing off that insanity of hers.

Course, to show further her ineptitude, if she had chosen to ask for financial help, she would've gotten it as that's what saves Camp Everfree as Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna and their students went to go and raise enough funds to pay off the debt she owed for Camp Everfree to Filthy Rich. Meaning if she how chosen to ask for help instead of wallowing in misery as she had done, she may have gotten the help she needed to crowdfund her debts off. Honestly, I just hope she hires someone else to manage her finances or else she's going to get into trouble with Filthy Rich again.

latest?cb=20161031225725

Out of the villains, she's the 2nd best, though by a good distance to the 1st place dazzlings cause she wasn't as shit as Sunset Shimmer and Principal Cinch.

Conclusion: Legend of Everfree is in my opinion the 2nd best EQG movie in the series behind the series best Rainbow Rocks. With further good development for Sunset Shimmer and the humane group being super heroines with their developing powers, Sci Twilight Sparkle's much needed development to be a better person to like with her inner conflict in using her magic without being controlled by Midnight Sparkle, and her romance with Timber Spruce was actually good along his character too. Flash Sentry and Canterlot High Principals recieved some much needed love in development as they also held their best role in EQG series as their characters got developed to something more interesting and they were more likeable for it. Sprinkle in a good song and humor and we have an entertaining and good movie. Still, what knocks it down from achieving the heights Rainbow Rocks had was mainly in Gloriosa's character, Rarity's exaggerated love for fashion here, and a weak ost.

Score: 8.5/10

Grade: B

No! It will always be Sunset/Sci-Twi! That is the one true 'ship in Equestria Girls! Well, that and Trixie/Illusions. :P

So, Legend of Everfree, in terms of "arc quality" probably the inversed version of Friendship games, while Friendship Games was basically saved by it's finale, Legend of Everfree was overall the better movie but had a rather average finale, it's just "kinda happened" and that's it.

What i enjoyed about Legend of Everfree was that Sunset was still a very good character despite not being the sole character in the spotlight, her continuous interaction with Sci-Twi was pretty cool and gave them both more character.

Regarding Rarity, i agree partially, i think they overdid her fashion thing here, however i have to say it makes a lot more sense in EqG than in FiM, mainly because clothes aren't regarded as optional there.

As for the music, i have to disagree, while i felt that Sunset's song lacked a bit, but music overall was rather decent, slightly disappointed mainly because it was Sunsets first solo song in EqG that actually happens in a Movie.

While the romance thing with Timber was done better than with Flash in EqG 1, this whole romance is still not my cup of tea, i only remember watching the audio commentary for LoE with one writer asking "You think people will like Timber more than Flash?" followed by utter silence, while Timber displayed more character than Flash, i can't say i'm a huge fan there, his switches between overcocky behavior and insecure crush / bf were not that good for my taste.

What i liked about Legend of Everfree is that they once again gave each of the Human 7 a scene or two, especially one with their new superpowers, which culminates in that they all use in trying to stop Gloriosa.

Regarding Gloriosa as villain, yeah she wasn't exactly the best, altough i'm willing to forgive that because the time spent on the other plot(s) was well spent my view, perhaps there should've been a scene within the movie showing her rather radical stance in terms of saving camp not just right before she transforms.

Overall, Legend of Everfree managed to the same thing i enjoyed about Rainbow Rocks / Friendship games, actual character & plot development that gets you hyped for the next Installment.
