Coming back from a 2 year break, which episodes do you recommend?

Recommended Posts

Did you leave off after the finale of Season Five? Definitely watch  the premieres and finales of each season, since that's where most of the continuity happens.

Really, watch them all. :pwease:

But if you can't, or you want the Continuity and Character Developing highlights first, here are my bare essential recs for Season 6:

Premiere 2 parter: The Crystalling 1 & 2
On Your Marks
Gauntlet of Fire
No Second Prances
Newbie Dash
The Times, They Are a Changeling
Finale: To Where And Back Again 1&2

Total: 9

Really Fun but not story-essential:
The Gift of the Maud Pie
A Hearthswarming Tail
The Saddle Row and Review
Flutter Brutter
Stranger Than Fanfiction
Dungeons and Discords
Buckball Season
The Fault in Our Cutie Marks
P.P.O.V.
Top Bolt

Total: 10 - These are the ones that stood out as really fun for me. YMMV.

That's it for Season 6. On to Bare Essentials for Season 7 (so far):

Celestial Advise (The premiere episode; S7 did not start with an actual two-parter story this time, but two episodes dedicated to establishing Starlight Glimmer's growth and room for advancement)
A Flurry of Emtions
Rock Solid Friendship
Forever Filly (Sweetie Belle focused)
Parental Glideance (Dashparents!)
A Royal Problem
The Perfect Pear (Appleparents!)
Triple Threat (Changeling and Dragon continuity!)
To Change a Changeling (more Changeling continuity!)

Total (so far): 10

Really Fun but not story-essential:
All Bottled Up (Second episode!)
Honest Apple
Discordant Harmony
Fame and Misfortune
It Isn't the Mane Thing About You
A Health of Information (most recent episode to air as of 9-23)

Total (so far): 6. Again, YMMV.

This season also features some side-continuity that may or may not play into the finale. It's also being developed in the IDW comics as a side series called Legends of Magic. That's right, they're crossing the streams:gasp:
Episodes highlighting this potentially-plot-critical world-building are:

Campfire Tales
Daring Done?
A Health of Information (again)

Here's a few episodes from the last few seasons which might be of interest. I don't enjoy all of these, but some are relevant to lingering story threads, and others build up new story arcs.

Season 6 is spotty as fuck, and has some of the worst episodes in the show, but there are tons of gems worth watching -

Saddle Row
Hearth's Warming Tail
Stranger Than Fanfiction
Times Are A Changeling
Dungeons And Discords
Fault In Our Cutie Marks
Buckball Season
Viva Las Pegasus
Where the Apple Lies
Top Bolt

Also, for the love of god avoid Newbie Dash. I don't care if it's important, you'll save yourself a lot of pain and heartbreak if you never watch it

Season 7 is much more consistent, and a lot higher in quality and has some new classics for the show, the best of the best though -

Celestial Advice
All Bottled Up
A Flurry Of Emotions
Parental Glideance
A Royal Problem
Discordant Harmony
A Perfect Pear
Fame And Misfortune
Campfire Tales
Not the Mane Thing About You

I still have to see Marks and Recreations and A Health of Information, but I've heard a lot of good things about those
