Seeing that you guys want a mod squad with rights to police a server if needed, we have decided to make some mods! The rights they will/do have are as follows.

  • VoteBan
  • VoteKick
  • VoteMap

As of now we are trying to decide if to make a completely different group for the mod squad or if we should let our donators have rights to this as one of the perks.

Mods ought to be able to straight up kick/ban/mute/gag/remove sprays/ban users from spraying/change map at will rather than via votes. Votes for donators helps, especially if a mod isn't available, but votes shouldn't be needed if a mod is on.

Yeah, how about voting for donators, and straight up actions for mods?

(I voted for mod squad btw; it makes far more sense than the other one)

I have already discussed this with @WeAreBorg and he said he may write a plugin that give access to donators only if more then say 5 people are connected and an admin is not ingame.

If we were to actually have anyone with those rights the will be called an actual admin, not a mod.

I dunno. Admin should be reserved for rcon level or near rcon level access, with mods limited to just enough access to take out the trash.

My two cents on the matter are that mods should have direct kick, mute and spray remove capabilities to swiftly deal with trouble on the spot, with votes calls for temp bans and the rest of the things @Steamworks said above. Donators should be able to call votes for low-level things like a kick / map change / mute / gag or what have you, for a last line of defense in case neither admins nor the mods are around.

We will probably go with this.

Yeah this. The main thing is that admins have the power to veto anything a mod does. This limit makes sure that no one goes crazy. Also with a mod squad of 3 people it would be easy to get to anyone who is abusing their powers and remove them.

Trolls exist. Vote features will be useless because trolls, or friends of said person who is being kicked etc, will vote "No" intentionally. It will not resolve anything. Get a valid SourceBans setup going before approaching this again. Aeth knows what's up.

But sure, give donors the Vote features instead, direct access to the mods or admins.

Yeah, you don't want those powers in the hands of just anyone, or at the mercy of a vote. Votes are nice when used correctly but are more likely to just get ignored or abused.

We already have a SourceBans setup. That is was setup before the game servers were.

Setup as in with proper rankings, and logging so mods/admins can ban at will, and the reasons, bans or additional data can be viewed from SB. Its more organized, and will require a Suppot Ticket or Help Desk page or forum topic for players to post ban requests or appeals after they've been banned.

Obviously people wont be part of the staff if they spam, that's why you get the community's vote on who should/shouldn't be a staff member because we're (well most of us) are not idiots to vote up people not up to the task or up to no good.

**Edit

Also, that "tracker" system that PF2 had, which wasnt perfect on performance but for checking for duped accounts or players who change their names/ips was EXTREMELY useful in critical situations. Not sure if User knows how it was done or what it was, but Yoxy or Nepeta might know what it was. Nox would the most but not sure if he's even with us.

Ideally Mods should only be given TempBan power - if the player is exceptionally problematic, the mod can get in contact with one of the Admins to make the ban permanent.

The ban command that we have is only temporary, with the smallest time being 10 minutes and the longest 1 week.

There is really no reason for permaban access for mods. If we ban someone for a period of time a they really want to spend the time to wait and come back then we can just bring it to the admins. This is the main differences between and mod and admin for most communities.

Do you really wanna have to run to the admins for every hacker, griefer, and troll?

Most won't come back a second time unless they are extremely dedicated
