Tomb of the Alicorn - RPG recruitment

Legend has it that long ago, before the founding of Equestria, before the Royal Pony sisters, possibly even before the pony tribes; there existed the city of Alicorns. A popular legend among the most hardcore of historians and academics. A city that once housed the entire civilization that may have been the proginator race of all ponies. A city where magic and technology existed in its highest expression. Thats just the legends as no pony knows if the city existed and if it did, what happen to it.

 

Seekers of knowledge of course asked the then only Alicorn, Princess Celestia, about the city. She went on the record with a smile and quipped, "goodness, how old do you think I am? I will say this, the city of Alicorns was a popular legend when I was just a filly. Though in my time, it use to be a legend about a lost continent. Yet, that was ages even before my parents lived."

Scholars and treasure hunters continued to look for clues even going as far as the undiscovered lands to search for answers. Till one day, when one Professor Sand Script, archaeology, made an interesting discovery. While searching for artifacts in the Minotaur lands, he discovered a startling discovery: an alicorn tomb. It predates anything of Minotaur history and not even the Reigning Champion, King Midos, had any clue it existed. 

 

Sand Script and King Midos attempted to keep the discovery secret to preserve the integrity of the find for research. Somepony blabbed and the world went insane with Alicorn city fever. Now the land is beset with every sort of adventurer, scientist, and grave robber trying to get into the tomb. 

Needless to say, the Minotaur are not happy.

The Game:

You, the heroes, represent Team Sand Script. Whatever the relation, the old unicorn professor has reached out to you for help in delving into the secrets of the Alicorn Tomb. This will be a gauntlet of diplomacy, puzzle solving, fisticuffs, and the usual pony silliness. Think of it as an episode of MLP, only with Pinkie Pie in permanent sugar rush mode. 

 

Rating is Pg-13 for action violence. Keep the swearing down. No pvp. If ponies want to make little ponies, fade to black. 

 

The voyage from Equestria to the Minotaur lands has given the PC's time to get to know each other. Save for whatever dark secrets they want to harbor. 

Standard rules for this board apply.

 

Characters: Whatever you want as long as its not an Alicorn or colt/filly. You represent  young adults to full adults from whatever race, profession, dubious moral qualities you can think of (just no sadists, psychopaths, etc.). OC's only.

Description: Iris is a purple maned pegasus with light brown coat and light purple eyes that never let go of her black scarf embroided with her family crest. She possesses her own equipment that looks rather advanced technologically, including a strange looking rapier.
Backstory: Heir of the Lilac Brotherhood, Iris is a gifted fencer whose talents has no equal than her legendary laziness, to the great displeasure of her father who would like to see her taking the leadership of the organisation. In an attempt to wake up his daughter, this latter sent her on a escort mission at the demand of an archeologist.

I guess you might be serious about running this then. It seems like an interesting premise for an RP campaign. I'd hate to see it to go to waste, assuming you have things planned. 

 

Anywho, kinda been meaning to test out an older OC I've reimagined. (no pun intended) Might give him a shot, see how things turn out.

 

Name: Professor Kreidal Thornmantle

Race: Unicorn Pony

Sex: Male

Age: middle aged to old (mane is greying)

Personality: Quirky, Scholarly, Inquisitive

Description : A wizened unicorn with a ragged, greying mane - a longish horn poking out of it. Has bushy, lengthy eyebrows and has a bit of a goatee. Wears glasses that pair well with his deep, purple eyes. Wears a full body cloak to hide scars - there is some missing fur and a visible nasty burn that can be seen on his neck, despite trying to cover it up. (Have a sketch, but no means to scan it now)

TLDR Backstory: Teaches magic at Canterlot University. Generally well liked by students, but was forced to resign because of nobility politics. Was in a magical accident in his younger years that burned and scarred him horribly. Keeps quiet about it.

The max number of players i'm looking at is four, six if we get a lot of people wanting to play. I have an outline written out of npc's, world building for the Minotaur's, and of course, problems for the characters to be solving. The story of course is about the heroes solving those problems.

Name: Deorward, the Forlorn Guardian

Race: Artificial Life

Gender: N/A

Age: Some Millennia

Personality: Stalwart, Extremely Literal, Subservient, and Benign.

Other: Is incapable of vocal communication.

 

Description: Deorward appears as towering bipedal construct, very akin to that of a suit of armor, and bears the giant sword Wintertide. Enchanted with the magics of winter, the golem constantly exudes a frosty aura, a reminder of from where it originates. Ironically, for an entity created of powerful magic, Deorward is surprisingly unimaginative, and perceives things in a most literal manner, a side effect of being made only to serve others, no doubt. It is also perhaps worthy to note that Deorward is very strong, more so that what most could say of their own strength. Unfaltering and resolute to its duty, Deorward is best suited to protecting others from harm and warding off danger. Surprisingly in possession of more solicitude than one would expect.

 

Backstory: Deorward was forged and given life by a foregone race, the Reindeer of the Frozen North, and served as their faithful champion for as long as they existed. Since their inexplicable disappearance, however, the long-forgotten wintry golem has been deprived of function, and roamed the lands in search of new purpose. Interesting that a relic would be in the company of those who would be in search of other relics, yes?

Hm, Sir JbJonesV, I like the concept, plus I know what I said about playing any character. when I said that I was thinking more along the lines of the established races in MLP.  More along those lines.

 

Please, how is a non-talking character going to interact with the rest of the group?

Very well. In hindsight, the lack of verbal speech does make the character unable to have insightful interactions with the group, this I shall concede, and so shall I agree that talking is necessary. But I would still like to use Deorward, if I may. To explain, it's that I find the added element of something unusual like an artificial and sentient creature like Deorward amongst a group of curious explorers intriguing, and might prompt interesting dialogue/interactions between it and the characters or other things. Again, surely one may find that an artifact like Deorward assisting in their plight to uncover the secrets of the Alicorn Tomb to be amusing, yes?

 

The character practically sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to most other species, so why not use that trait in such a way so as to benefit from it? Even so, I do wish to adapt to the situation as best as I can. What if Professor Sand Script discovered Deorward by chance during his travels, and has since been studying it to learn how something like Deorward is possible? It (Deorward) would be relevant to Archaeology, after all. Perhaps exploring the Alicorn Tomb could also be relevant to this end, considering the magical capability of Alicorns as well. 

 

Apologies, as it is not my intent to impose anything upon you, nor force you to change anything in your plans. I merely wish to participate in this endeavor. I have modified my previous post as result.

IF you want to continue with this character, I'm going to need specifics about its abilities. It is a golem, what do you think its capable of doing? If you can provide a small list I can par it down so everything balances out. The one thing I do request that he has no knowledge of the Alicorn city, or the tomb, as both exist before he was ever created. 

 

His relationship with Sand Script and thus: he provides needed protection to the professor in some of the more dangerous area's of his work. He is up to date on modern history and knows something about Equestria. Seeing as this is taking place between the 5th and 6th season, plenty has been going on.

I've assembled a small list of additional traits and capabilities. It is quite simple and modest, I'd think, since I do not desire to create abilities too extreme or out of place.

 

Traits/Capabilities:

.- Sturdy

Deorward is definitely able to take a hit and deliver a powerful one of its own in turn, attributing to its great strength and resilience. 

.- Resistant to heat.

Enchanted with the ambience of the Frozen North, Deorward is in possession of a natural immunity to heat. A given, and unlikely to have relevance, but still perhaps worth noting.

.- Able to cool things down with its touch.

Largely as a result of Deorward's chilling aura. By no means am I saying that Deorward can freeze things instantaneously with a mere poke. Put simply, this is much more an atmospheric feature/trait than anything else.

The Lilac Brotherhood is a mercenary organisation based in Equestria. They take on people's requests, which can range from human services to assassinations (thought they're always denying the latter) in exchange of money. They're generally well seen by the popular opinion for their efficiency. Think of it like a guild in Fairy Tail.

It belongs to her lore and will not have any incidence on the story, unless you decide so.

 

As for her equipment, there are only two features worth of notice:

Her armor, while being strongly resistant, is extremly light and doesn't weight her down.

The rapier is unique in the way that it can be electrified to act as a taser or radiate a fairly dim light, thanks to its generator. It can and will run out of battery if those abilities are overused and the only way to recharge it is a source of magic or a direct line of sight to the sky.
